Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Internal Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for determining work allocations.
  • Employing people to staffing requirements, terminating one level down, and often decisions to get chickens to the processing plant.
  • Salary changes, promotions, changes in policy or procedures require approval of higher authority.
  • In addition to department personnel, works with farms and farm managers (or field personnel), truck shop, and plant personnel.

External Responsibilities:
  • Contact growers, drivers, and catch crews as needed.
  • Direct the pickup and transporting of chickens to the processing plant.
  • Meeting with catch crew leaders at the beginning of the work shift and assigning duties to ensure safe, proper, and efficient delivery of chickens to the processing plant from the farm.
  • Making decisions on how many birds.
  • Checking with crews on farms and assuring all crews are working to live haul standards at the highest quality standards always.
  • Solving problems and addressing issues as necessary.
  • Coordinating with crew leaders along with the processing plant.
  • Hiring and terminating employees.
  • Establish and enforce company and department safety production and animal welfare standards.
  • Provide necessary training for catch crew foreperson.
  • Work with other departments as needed for overall division planning and proper record keeping; to include documentation of all disciplinary actions.
  • Attend meetings and miscellaneous training sessions.
  • Communicate with the Live Haul Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have 5 years supervisory training.
  • Must have knowledge of poultry transportation.
  • Must have excellent personal communication skills; written and verbal.
  • Must have good basic mathematical skills.
  • Must have the ability to make sound decisions while under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and pleasant work environment for everyone in the department: including drivers, catchers, and other employees.
  • Must be able to work night shift(s) with variable starting and ending times.
  • Must have a good DMV Record.
  • Must be able and willing to enforce all company policies.
  • Must understand DOT rules for Class A Drivers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work in an outside environment (including inclement weather) daily.
  • Ability to climb a ladder to a height of 25 ft.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stoop and squat repetitively.
  • Work around raw, live animal odors.
  • Work in a noisy environment (>85 decibels) and around moving equipment.
