Construction Superintendent

Midnight Sun is seeking a Construction Superintendent to support federal construction at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising daily field operations from mobilization through project closeout. This position ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with contract requirements and quality standards.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily construction activities.
  • Lead and coordinate employees, subcontractors, vendors, and material deliveries to maintain project schedule and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain the schedule in coordination with the Project Manager and Quality Control Manager.
  • Monitor project progress, identify schedule impacts, and implement corrective actions to maintain production.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure compliance with contract documents, project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate Preparatory, Initial, and Follow-Up inspections and required testing activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs to ensure work is performed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while coordinating with the Project Manager, Quality Control Manager, design team, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain daily reports documenting manpower, equipment, production, weather, inspections, and project activities.
  • Coordinate site logistics, equipment, material deliveries, and work sequencing to support efficient project execution.
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Participate in preconstruction planning, constructability reviews, progress meetings, and project closeout activities.
  • Maintain an active onsite presence while construction activities are underway.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or similar field leadership role on commercial, federal, or military construction projects.
  • Experience with vertical construction, renovation, and/or design-build projects; USACE and/or NAVFAC experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, field operations, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, EM 385-1-1, federal construction quality requirements, and safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction and First Aid/CPR certifications required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access, including applicable background and security requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and successful project delivery.

Work Environment

This position requires work in both office and active construction site environments. Employees are regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction equipment, noise, dust, and other job site hazards. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn on active job sites.


Physical Requirements

  • Walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and safely navigate active construction sites.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Operate computers, phones, and other office and field equipment.
  • Perform site inspections in unfinished and outdoor environments.
  • Read construction drawings, inspect work, and review project documentation.
