The Pipe Fitter is responsible for fitting piping components as per supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions while adhering to Acadian or customer welding procedure requirements. This role demands efficient, productive work, clear communication with assigned helpers and welders, and a professional approach to work relationships. The Fitter is ultimately accountable for the quality of their workmanship and productivity. Acadian Contractors, Inc. maintains a continuing policy of non-discrimination in employment. It is our policy to provide equal opportunity to protected veterans in all phases of the employment process and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This policy of non-discrimination shall include, but not be limited to, the following employment decisions and practices: hiring; promotions; demotions or transfers; layoffs; recalls; terminations; rates of pay or other forms of compensation; selection for training, including apprenticeship; and recruitment or recruitment advertising. All employment decisions are based only on valid job requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform material take-offs on drawings to determine required cut lengths.
  • Operate pipe/beam cutting machines or, when unavailable, use beveling machines to cut pipe to the necessary length. Coordinate with the Shop Foreman to assign personnel or issue a cut list if needed.
  • Communicate effectively with helpers to ensure the appropriate materials and equipment are prepared for each project task.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts securely in position for welding.
  • Verify that all materials (pipes, structural components, fittings) match the drawing specifications, including size, rating, grade, project number, and phase. Report any discrepancies to the Shop Foreman.
  • Confirm all measurements, ensuring square and level components before releasing them to the welder.
  • Record pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings for accuracy and quality control.
  • Transfer heat numbers to drawings and cut sheets upon completion and submit to the Shop Foreman.
  • Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number for identification.
  • Transfer heat numbers and job numbers to all material drop-offs and coordinate with the Foreman for inventory or storage movement.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and adhere to the work schedule consistently.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all equipment, including torches, torch hoses, grinders, levels, tapes, etc., to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Keep the work area clean and safe by sweeping and maintaining a tidy environment as needed.
  • Complete and discuss a thorough Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) before each task.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards customer service and represent ACI professionally at all times.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in piping, vessel, and packaged equipment fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of material take-offs, pipe and beam cutting procedures, and equipment utilization.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to project and drawing specifications.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills to guide helpers and ensure project success.
  • Commitment to safety, punctuality, and maintaining a clean work environment.
HSE Responsibilities
  • Embrace, lead, and demonstrate "Acadian F.I.R.S.T." - Vision & Mission Statement as fundamental core values.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership and support proactive safety processes (JSA, Time Out & TEAM BBS Observations) to achieve an incident-free workplace and advance our safety culture.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management System policies, procedures, safe work practices, and client-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Make a personal commitment and be accountable for HSE results, driving toward the achievement of defined goals. Clearly communicate these goals through direct reports, while coaching, mentoring, and empowering others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Conduct periodic quality assessments of HSE processes to enhance personal coaching and mentoring effectiveness and demonstrate ownership in the successful implementation of HSE programs.
