PARK RANGER

Variable

Pay Rate: $16.80 per hour


Required shifts include:

Weekdays, 2:00pm–10:00pm

Weekends, 6:30am–2:30pm or 2:00pm–10:00pm


JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The Park Ranger is a seasonal position responsible for routine manual labor and maintenance work in a variety of parks and ground functions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)

  • Responsible for enforcement of established park rules and local ordinances.
  • Responsible for greeting and assisting park patrons and guests in a pleasant, friendly and efficient manner.
  • Ensures a pleasant and safe park environment for all park guests; responsible for the general security of assigned park, including any necessary communication with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Assists with general custodial and maintenance of park buildings and facilities, including, but not limited to, sweeping, trash pickup and other general groundskeeping duties as assigned.
  • Performs manual labor, including, but not limited to, mowing, snow shoveling and salting.
  • Assists in the setup and teardown of special events as assigned.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns, which include, but are not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
  • Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to drive a pickup truck or utility cart.
  • General knowledge of security practices, ensuring park safety for all guests.
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to selfstart in discharging responsibilities.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate a wide variety of maintenance equipment, including, but not limited to, tractors, sweepers and different types of power mowers, lawn equipment, and hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor; the ability to work in adverse environmental, extreme weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This is an "At-Will" position. Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints and staff availability.

Posting Information: Park Ranger (Variable Hour)

  • This is a variable-hour job opportunity. Employee's hours will fluctuate from week to week. Work hours will be determined based on workload and availability. An employee in this position will primarily work through the golf season and may be scheduled to work intermittently during the remainder of the year.
  • This is an at-will position. Hours are limited and will vary based on the operational needs of the department. Employees in this position will be classified as variable hour employees.
