Software Developer III | Chicago, Illinois, United States Software Developer III - Optimization Modeling Engineer Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid/Onsite) Company: United Airlines Job Type: Contract About the Role Join United Airlines' Network Planning and Optimization team as an Optimization Modeling Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will design, develop, and maintain advanced optimization models and C++ applications that shape key airline planning and operational strategies. If you have a passion for solving complex challenges using quantitative methods and software engineering, this is your chance to make a direct impact on airline efficiency and performance in a forward-thinking, collaborative environment. Responsibilities - Develop, enhance, and maintain optimization models to support airline operations and network planning initiatives. - Design and implement linear optimization and mathematical programming models to address complex business challenges. - Build robust, production-grade software applications using C++. - Integrate optimization models with IBM CPLEX and other industry-leading solvers. - Analyze large datasets to translate business requirements into actionable quantitative models and decision-support tools. - Support and maintain applications in Linux and cloud-based environments. - Collaborate with operations research professionals, software engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful optimization solutions. - Contribute to modernization projects, including evaluating and adopting new technologies such as Julia. - Troubleshoot, enhance, and optimize existing modeling applications to improve scalability and performance.
