Description:

Through clinical services, education, and research, The Family Institute at Northwestern University is one of the nation’s leading relationship-based behavioral health organizations committed to strengthening and healing children and adolescents, couples, families, and individuals. When you join The Family Institute, you are joining a team of over 230 collaborators comprised of clinicians, educators, researchers, therapists-in-training, partners, and administrators across four service sites. We are a strong, independent organization focused on advancing the world of behavioral health.


The Affiliate Teaching Faculty for the Counseling Program will teach course sections each quarter commensurate with the need of the program and ability of the instructor. Affiliate faculty will likely teach one or more sections, but there are no guarantees for appointments from one quarter to the next.


Candidates with experience teaching courses focused on the Assessment of Children and Adolescents within a CACREP program will be prioritized.

Requirements:
  • Provide and submit necessary documentation for the faculty appointment by TGS at NU.
  • Meet with your course lead for training and curricular instruction and consultation as needed or requested.
  • Follow program-provided instructions and/or checklists with ample time before classes begin.
  • Provide instruction and processing as follows:
  • IF On Campus (weekly three-hour lectures): Be present in class, including when visiting lecturers are in attendance.
  • IF Online (weekly 90-minute live sessions that will take place on the provided online platform): Each week you will review the asynchronous content of your course. In addition, lectures should closely follow the asynchronous content for the week as well as instructions provided in the course material.
  • Complete all grading of assignments within two weeks of the due date. This includes keeping track of grades and grading data required for program needs and accreditation requirements. In addition, grading is expected to include detailed written feedback and comments.
  • At the end of the quarter, complete all steps outlined in the Faculty Guidelines, including submitting grades by the deadline specified by the Office of the Registrar. If faculty appointment has not been completed, submit grades to the program lead.
  • Participate in instructor evaluation process, (e.g. mid-quarter evaluations and/or CTECs).
  • Participate in required technology and other programmatic training.
  • Attend required organization and program meetings and events (e.g., affiliate faculty meetings).


Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Counselor Education and Supervision identity as evidenced by professional affiliations, publications, and licensure; or related field of mental health services
  2. Evidence of ability to teach within the discipline of Counseling
  3. Excellent organizational skills
  4. Creativity, innovation, and ability to work independently and within a team
  5. Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
  6. Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  7. Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
  8. Effectively work with multiple databases and student platforms
  9. Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students and faculty
  10. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  11. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  12. Cultural competence and strong interest in diversity

Minimum Specifications:

  1. Earned CACREP-accredited Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or related mental health services field
  2. Two or more years of experience teaching graduate-level courses
  3. Experience with clinical practice in expertise that is being taught
  4. Active clinical licensure in home state, or the ability to gain such
