Purpose of the position: Reporting the Project Operation Manager, the primary mission of the Operation Engineer is to lead the readiness for the vessel operations and be the project representative on board the vessel.

This is a high growth potential position feeding into the Project operations manager and eventually project manager/director track. The operations engineer sees a broad cross-section of the project execution process in addition to being present for the offshore execution of the work thereby gaining extremely valuable experience. Candidate is instrumental to performing the work in a safe, efficient manner.

During the project preparation phase, candidate will collaborate with Vessel Manager and Vessel Asset Manager to verify that the suggested procedures are correct and that the most efficient and cost‑effective solutions are implemented; quickly distinguish the missing points and required optimization of the equipment used on board.

During project execution, the candidate will be the reference point between the project team and the Vessel Management Team. They will be able to suggest modifications and changes leading to improvements taking into account the suggestions of the on‑board management as well as interface with the on‑board client representatives.

Responsibilities
  • Review the engineering and planning of the job to ensure that it is executed safely and in line with Saipem’s LiHS program.
  • Coordinate the general preparation and related interfaces with all departments in scope, including engineering, installation engineering, procurement, post‑order services and assets.
  • Follow‑up procurement and logistics of installation aids.
  • Lead subcontracting activities (survey & positioning, ROV services, NDT, diving, pre‑commissioning, etc.) associated with the construction vessel.
  • Interface with procurement/fabrication departments for delivery of incorporated items on the offshore site and, in particular, transportation vessel preparation associated with the cargo for the construction vessel.
  • Lead the installation vessel(s) qualification(s) towards the client.
  • Lead the installation vessel project HR preparation.
  • Lead the installation vessel equipment preparation.
  • Lead mobilization/demobilization preparation of the installation vessel.
  • Attend fabrication facilities to ensure readiness for transportation to site of fabricated items.
  • Coordinate the offshore operation on board the installation vessel as project representative on board.
  • Compile all required information for project close‑out, invoicing close‑out, and return of experience.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanics, Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in the oil & gas industry.
  • Technical Skills: Familiar with industry codes and standards applicable to offshore Oil & Gas facilities design, construction, and installation.
  • Knowledge of offshore pipeline and/or heavy lift installation techniques and factors affecting design, cost, and schedule for offshore oil field development.
  • Experience onshore bases, fabrication yards, and offshore vessels is a plus.
  • Previous experience with clients operating offshore installation is a plus.
