Job Title: Parish Cook Status: Part-time
Exemption Status: Non-exempt Salary Grade: 20
Department/Location: St Augustine Cathedral / Tucson, AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor or Parish Administrator is responsible for providing meals for the pastor, other clergy, or visiting guests. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the cook’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Prepare meals for the Pastor, Clergy and guests as required.
  • Plan nutritious and well-balanced meals, purchase food and related household items
  • Work within allotted budget guidelines; ensure goods purchased are properly accounted for.
  • Ensure all applicable hygiene requirements are always adhered to.
  • Always ensure that health, sanitation, and safety requirements are met.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen in accordance with normally accepted health guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal household environment.
Required Activities: Walking; sitting standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling, hearing; carrying; and climbing.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; be in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees; interact with priests and others in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner.
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
