Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Residential Area Manager works cooperatively with the Residence Life staff to create a positive and inclusive living-learning community for students consistent with the University's Jesuit mission. The Residential Area Manager position is a live-in position, responsible for the overall management of a residential area of 300-600 students. The primary focus of the position is on student development and learning, within the context of building vibrant, inclusive communities.
The Residential Area Manager supervises a staff of 7-16 Resident Assistants and 1 Head Resident Assistant. This position works closely with other members of the Residence Life team and Student Life staff to provide area leadership, programming and a living environment that complements students' educational experiences. Additional responsibilities include serving in a shared on-call emergency management rotation, serving as a student conduct hearing officer, assisting in the implementation of departmental initiatives such as RA Selection and RA Training, and working with Public Safety and Facilities Management to promote student safety and advocate for the physical care of residential spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned residential area of 300-600 resident students.

• Train, supervise, and evaluate 7 to 16 Resident Assistants and 1 Head Resident Assistant.

• Enforce and interpret University and Residence Life policies.

• Serve as a student conduct hearing officer to adjudicate violations of University policies.

• Rotate weekday, weekend, and University holiday on-call duty with the other RAM staff.

• Facilitate departmental and area programming and community development based on the departmental programming model and other University priorities.

• In cooperation with departmental leadership, ensure the participation in and success of Residential Learning Communities and special housing communities assigned to the area, if applicable.

• Effectively manage budget responsibilities for residential area programming.

• Assist with the coordination of and actively participate in Residence Life student staffselection, training, and evaluation processes.

• Assist with the implementation of departmental processes and operations including housing selection, assessment efforts, recruitment efforts, orientations, and occasional office operations coverage.

• Work closely with the entire Residence Life staff to ensure that the department is fulfilling its responsibility to provide a positive and inclusive living experience for all residents.

• In cooperation with the Housing Operations central staff members, assess and actively manage the physical condition of the residence halls relative to their cleanliness and maintenance needs.

• Complete routine health and safety inspections.

• Keep accurate records of damages and fines for student billing.

• Develop and maintain a productive working relationship with the members ofFacilities Management, Housekeeping, Dining Services, Public Safety, and the Student Life Team.

• Coordinate and/or actively participate in key summer projects including, but not limitedto: summer term housing and special residential program oversight, housing assignments, New Student Orientation, revision of publications and staff manuals, planning of fall RA Training, early arrival programs, and other special projects.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with members of Student Life and other members of theUniversity community to establish a positive campus environment in which students excel academically, spiritually, and personally.

• Attend professional seminars, training, and/or conferences relevant to the responsibilities of the position. Participate in and contribute to the professional development efforts of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Life.

• Occasionally assist with the implementation of campus-wideprograms and Student Life events.

• Communicate the Jesuit philosophy, departmental mission, and University policies to the residential community, parents, students, and personnel as appropriate.

• Maintain a high degree of professionalism and serve as a positive role model to staff and students.

• Serve on University and Student Life committees as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor's Degree.

• Strong supervision, communication, and managerial skills are necessary.

• Availability to live in the residence halls.

• Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph's University.

Preferred

• Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or closely related major is preferred.

• 1 - 3 years prior Residence Life experience at the graduate or professional level.

• Demonstrated ability to be student focused.

• Previous demonstration of a collaborative work style.

• Demonstrated commitment to nurturing inclusive communities within the residence halls.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

• Shared on-call duty rotation for evenings, weekends, and University holidays; occasionalevening/weekend hours in order to attend programs, training sessions, and meet with students.

• While employed in this position, you are required to live in one of the University's residence halls. As such, included in your employment offer is the use of a furnished apartment in a residence hall with utilities paid by the University. In addition, a 9-month university meal plan is available to you while the University is in session.

Pay Transparancy:

The estimatedpayrange for this position is $43,500-$45,000 paid annually for an eleven month work period. Offeredsalarywill be commensurate with work experience and educational background. Clickhereto learn more about the University's approach to pay and benefits transparency.
