Live In Net Nanny information

What is a live in net nanny?

Live-in net nannies are caregivers who reside in a family's home and provide supervision, guidance, and support for children's online activities. Their main role is to help ensure safe and responsible internet usage, set boundaries for screen time, monitor online interactions, and educate children about digital safety. In addition to digital supervision, they may also assist with other childcare duties such as homework help, meal preparation, and general supervision. This position is especially valued by families who want to foster a healthy relationship between their children and technology.

How does a live in net nanny typically collaborate with parents to create effective digital safety guidelines for children?

A Live In Net Nanny works closely with parents to understand their expectations and concerns regarding their children's online activities. Together, they develop tailored digital safety rules and schedules, balancing educational and recreational screen time. The Net Nanny provides regular feedback to parents about the child's online behavior, suggests appropriate tools or parental controls, and stays updated on emerging online risks. Open, ongoing communication ensures that guidelines evolve as the child's needs and digital landscape change.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in net nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live-In Net Nanny, you need strong childcare experience, knowledge of child development, and understanding of internet safety and digital literacy, often supported by relevant certifications such as CPR/First Aid and, in some cases, early childhood education credentials. Familiarity with parental control software, monitoring tools, and various digital platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, patience, discretion, and the ability to build trust with both children and parents are standout soft skills. These competencies are vital to ensure children's safety online and offline, foster healthy digital habits, and provide a secure, nurturing home environment.

Job description

A growing family in the West Village, NYC is looking for a dependable, nurturing, and proactive live-out ROTA nanny to care for their newborn and 2-year-old. Care is shared by two ROTA nannies on 10-hour shifts (8am-6pm), working 1-2 weeks on/ 1-2 weeks off. The nannies are live-out while on duty (so must maintain their own housing in the area) unless they are traveling with the family, or required to stay later/ over on occasion. The nanny is expected to be on-call when present at home, and keep their schedule clear during their entire shift.

From June through August, the family resides in the Hamptons, and during this time the position transitions to live-in while on rotation (candidates will be provided a private bedroom and bathroom). The family also travels both within the U.S. and abroad; when a trip takes them out of town, the family covers the nanny's flight back to their home base for the off rotation.

This is a long-term role for caregivers who want to build a genuine, lasting bond with the children and grow with them as their needs change. The right person loves working with young children, takes pride in creating a calm and nurturing home, and works well alongside a team. Both nannies would take turns accompanying the family on domestic and international trips. A flexible, adaptable approach is essential, since plans can change with travel, holidays, the children's routines, and other commitments that come up. The family has a newborn care specialist for the baby's first 4 months, so the nanny can expect the baby to be in a consistent, well-established routine.

Day to day, the nanny keeps the children engaged in age-appropriate play and outings and supports their overall care. The nanny will assume full responsibility for the children's day-to-day care, development, routines, and child-related organization, providing attentive, proactive, and professional support in partnership with the parents. Core responsibilities include:

  • Provide exceptional, warm, and attentive care while ensuring the children's safety, comfort, happiness, and overall well-being at all times.
  • Establish and maintain consistent, age-appropriate routines for feeding, naps, sleep, hygiene, play, and developmental activities, adapting as the children's needs evolve.
  • Prepare and serve bottles, meals, and snacks, introduce solids when appropriate, and encourage healthy eating habits and self-feeding.
  • Assist with all aspects of daily care, including diapering, dressing, bathing, toileting, and bedtime routines.
  • Plan and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate activities, including sensory play, tummy time, reading, music, arts and crafts, imaginative play, and outdoor exploration.
  • Independently take the children on walks, appointments, classes, playdates, and other enriching outings, exercising sound judgment at all times.
  • Foster each child's emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development through attentive, responsive, and individualized care.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of feedings, naps, diaper changes, meals, activities, milestones, and other relevant observations.
  • Prepare, clean, and sanitize children's bottles, feeding equipment, and meal areas to a high standard.
  • Maintain exceptional organization and cleanliness of all child-related spaces, including the nursery, playroom, children's bedrooms, stroller, diaper bag, car seats, and other equipment.
  • Manage all child-related household tasks, including children's laundry, replenishing supplies, organizing deliveries, rotating outgrown clothing and toys, and completing occasional child-related errands.
  • Communicate proactively and thoughtfully with the parents regarding routines, milestones, observations, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate professionally with the alternate ROTA nanny and other household staff to ensure seamless transitions, consistency of care, and a respectful working relationship.
  • Demonstrate initiative, discretion, flexibility, and excellent judgment, anticipating the children's needs while adapting to changing schedules and family priorities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally with the family as needed, preparing and packing children's belongings, maintaining established routines across locations, keeping personal accommodations tidy, and occasionally sharing a room with one of the children while traveling.

Candidate Profile:

  • Exceptional career nanny with at least 5 years of full-time nanny experience with infants and toddlers
  • Strong grounding in caring for both infants and toddlers — feeding, sleep, developmental milestones, behavior guidance, and safety
  • Positive, can-do outlook
  • Energetic, proactive, and fully present with the kids throughout the shift
  • A self-starter who gets things done and can anticipate child needs
  • Adaptable to any environment
  • Genuinely enjoys nurturing independence and helping children learn
  • Highly organized, punctual, clean, and tidy
  • Carries themselves with humility, empathy and is respectful towards other staff members and community
  • Comfortable working holidays
  • A strong team player alongside hands-on parents and other caregivers
  • A degree or certification in early childhood education or infant care is a plus, though equivalent hands-on experience counts too
  • Fluent in English and Fluent in Spanish is a plus

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and to travel internationally
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record
  • Confident swimmer
  • Flexible and ready to travel as needed
  • Happy to collaborate closely with other household staff
  • A clear communicator who can take charge when the moment calls for it
  • Discretion and good judgment — sensitive to the family's privacy, knowing when to give them space, and poised and professional around their friends and wider circle
  • Looking to commit long-term to a warm, grounded family
  • Up to date with vaccinations

  • Compensation starts at $150,000-165,000 per year, DOE. Benefits include a health reimbursement arrangement of $1,000 per month.
