Fairwinds Technologies is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to support a major AWACS modernization program focused on secure communications, mission systems integration, avionics cybersecurity, and network architecture supporting E-767 aircraft and associated ground systems.

The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for cybersecurity engineering, RMF compliance, secure communications integration, and mission system security across aircraft, laboratories, and operational environments. This position also includes supervisory responsibilities.

This is a supervisory position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cybersecurity engineering activities for aircraft and ground-system modernization efforts.
  • Develop and maintain cybersecurity architectures supporting airborne mission systems and communications networks.
  • Perform cybersecurity gap analyses against DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M).
  • Generate and support Authorization to Operate (ATO), Interim Authorization to Test (IATT), and RMF package submissions.
  • Assess cybersecurity risks associated with avionics modifications, mission systems, and network interfaces.
  • Ensure system designs support security accreditation requirements throughout program lifecycle.
  • Design and assess secure aircraft network architectures.
  • Develop interface security requirements for mission-critical systems.
  • Evaluate security impacts of integrating legacy and modern communication systems.
  • Support the integration of radio, waveform, communication and other devices.
  • Ensure secure communications architecture meets operational and interoperability requirements.
  • Collaborate with avionics, software, systems engineering, and test teams.
  • Support development and review of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs), System Architecture Documents, and Requirements Traceability Matrices.
  • Evaluate cybersecurity implications of hardware and software design changes.
  • Develop and implement security engineering strategies aligned with Program Protection Plans.
  • Identify Critical Program Information (CPI) and Critical Components (CC).
  • Evaluate Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS), Open-Source Software, and contractor-developed software for security compliance.
  • Support TEMPEST analysis and compliance activities and assist in development of TEMPEST Control Plans.
  • Review grounding architectures, wiring designs, cabinet layouts, and shielding approaches.
  • Coordinate with E3/EMI/EMC engineering teams to ensure cybersecurity and electromagnetic protection objectives are met.
  • Participate in System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and Configuration Audits.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • One or more of the following certifications: Cisco CCNP Security, CISSP, CASP+, Security+, or CEH.
Experience
  • 9+ years of network security or cybersecurity engineering experience.
  • 5+ years supporting military aviation, avionics, aerospace, or mission systems programs.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness certification processes.
  • Experience with secure communications systems integration.
  • Experience supporting system integration labs and test facilities.
  • Experience with NIST RMF, NIST 800-53 Security Controls, DoD Cybersecurity Processes, ATO/IATT Activities, Cyber Risk Assessments, POA&M Development, and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Experience using Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) database.
  • Experience working with Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC).
