MAGTF Fires Specialist (Aviation Fires)

Primary Location: USMC MAGTF Integrated Systems Training Center (MISTC) – Site TBD

Clearance: Secret (Top Secret/SCI may be required)

Job Summary


The MAGTF Fires Specialist (Aviation Fires) provides subject matter expertise and support to training audiences in the operation, utilization, and integration of aviation fires and targeting systems within the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Combat Operations Center (COC). The Specialist delivers classroom and field instruction, supports live training exercises, and integrates aviation fires systems into joint and service-specific command and control architectures to ensure training realism and mission readiness. This role mentors training audiences on airspace coordination, targeting processes, and joint fires interoperability, ensuring all Programs of Instruction (POIs) and training events align with Marine Corps standards and mission readiness requirements.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Support classroom training, field training, and exercise execution focused on aviation fires integration at the MAGTF and joint level.
  • Provide technical and operational expertise on aviation fires planning, coordination, and execution within COC operations.
  • Operate and integrate joint and service-specific fires systems such as AFATDS, TBMCS, JADOCS, PFED/JFO tools, TAIS, and C2PC/GCCS-MC.
  • Advise and mentor training audiences on airspace coordination, targeting processes, and joint fires interoperability.
  • Conduct after-action reviews (AARs) and provide recommendations for curriculum refinement and POI updates.
  • Coordinate with Site Directors, instructors, and training audiences to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Support the development of training support packages and exercise scenarios involving aviation fires integration.
  • Troubleshoot fires systems during training events and provide technical assistance to training audiences as required.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Military Studies, Aviation, Fire Support, or related field preferred. Equivalent military training in aviation fires, joint fires, or fire support coordination may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Prior U.S. military service in aviation fires, fire support, or targeting specialties (e.g., USMC 72XX Aviation C2, 08XX Fires MOS, JTAC, or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting COC, TACC, FSCC, or joint fires operations.
  • Hands-on experience with aviation fires and targeting systems (AFATDS, TBMCS, JADOCS, PFED, TAIS, C2PC, GCCS-MC).
  • Familiarity with MAGTF operations, air-ground integration, and joint/coalition fires processes.
  • Experience supporting classroom instruction, field training, and live exercises, including setup, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Certifications Required: CompTIA Security+ CE (DoD 8570 baseline certification). Preferred: JTAC or JTAC Instructor Certification, Joint Fires Observer (JFO) qualification, system-specific operator/integrator certifications (e.g., AFATDS, TBMCS, JADOCS), ITIL v4 Foundation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (Top Secret/SCI may be required).
  • Strong ability to integrate aviation fires into training scenarios and MAGTF operations.
  • Excellent communication skills to train and advise Marines, government civilians, and contractors.
  • Flexibility to support field training environments, extended duty hours, and travel as required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Garrison and field/tactical work environment including outdoor exercise areas.
  • Occasional extended working hours will be required during training events and exercises.
  • Schedule: M-F normal business hours; reverse or extended operations may occur based on exercise requirements.

Travel

  • Travel to distributed MISTCs and exercise sites as mission requires.
  • Domestic travel up to 25%; OCONUS travel possible based on program requirements.
