Live In Jewish Nanny information

What is a live in Jewish nanny?

A Live In Jewish Nanny is a childcare provider who resides with a family and cares for their children, typically in accordance with Jewish customs and values. This role often includes responsibilities such as preparing kosher meals, observing Shabbat and Jewish holidays, and helping to instill Jewish traditions in the children. Live in nannies generally handle day-to-day childcare duties and may also assist with light housekeeping related to the children. They become an integral part of the household, providing stability and support for the family. Many families seek nannies who can reinforce their religious practices and offer a nurturing, culturally aligned environment for their children.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in Jewish nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Jewish Nanny, you need experience in childcare, knowledge of child development, and familiarity with Jewish customs and traditions, often supported by CPR/first aid certification. Familiarity with household management tools, communication apps, and kosher kitchen protocols is highly beneficial. Patience, cultural sensitivity, and strong communication skills help build trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure a nurturing, respectful environment that aligns with the family's values and provides safe, reliable care.

What are some unique challenges a live in Jewish nanny might face, and how can they prepare for them?

A live-in Jewish nanny often navigates unique challenges such as observing kosher dietary laws, accommodating Sabbath and holiday schedules, and integrating Jewish customs into daily routines. It's important to communicate clearly with the family about their specific religious practices and expectations. Familiarity with Jewish traditions, flexibility, and a respectful approach to religious observance help build trust and ensure a harmonious household. Additionally, adapting to a live-in arrangement requires maintaining professional boundaries while becoming part of the family's daily life.

Job description

Nanny — Family-Focused Position

The kids come first—always. This family is looking for a highly engaged, dependable nanny whose primary focus is caring for two school-aged children and making sure they feel supported, supervised, and encouraged throughout the day. The ideal candidate genuinely enjoys being involved with the children, from helping with homework and reading to encouraging music, creative activities, playdates, and time away from screens. This is a role for someone who is proactive, attentive, and comfortable taking the lead with routines, boundaries, activities, and the children's day-to-day needs.

The nanny will also assist with school transportation, activities, meals, children's laundry, bath and bedtime routines, and keeping the household running smoothly with light household tasks. One child has insulin-dependent diabetes and will need support with reminders around meals and insulin, as well as occasional overnight monitoring through a glucose-monitoring app when a parent is working overnight. The family has a house cleaner who handles heavy cleaning, so the nanny's household responsibilities are limited to light upkeep. A live-in arrangement is preferred, but the family is open to an excellent live-out candidate. Flexibility for occasional late nights and overnights is important.

Schedule

The schedule is somewhat flexible and will vary depending on the family's needs. On days when the parent is unavailable, an example schedule is:

Monday – Friday
7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
2:15 PM – 8:00 PM

Occasional overnight monitoring may be needed when a parent is working overnight.

Will provide a private bedroom and semi-private bath.
