Job description

About Us
Curi Capital, founded in 2005, is a rapidly growing national registered investment advisory firm (RIA) based in Chicago. We are committed to building meaningful relationships and making a difference in our clients' financial wellness. Our mission is focused on enriching the lives of our teammates, clients, partners, and the communities in which we live and work. Curi Capital is perennially ranked among Barron's Top 100 Independent Registered Investment Advisors globally. Our values-Accountability, Curiosity, Teamwork, Inclusion, and Service Commitment-are at the core of our culture.
Location
At Curi Capital, we believe that working together we have better outcomes. Team members are strongly encouraged to work in the office three days a week. We have locations across the country and welcome candidates to apply that live and work in one of our seven main locations:
Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Raleigh, North Carolina; Washington DC; St. Joe, Michigan; Edina, Minnesota
Build the Tax Practice You've Always Wanted to Build
Curi Capital is hiring a Tax Director to design, launch, and lead our in-house tax practice from the ground up inside our Practice Management department. This is a rare opportunity to step out of the rinse-and-repeat cycle of a traditional public accounting firm and architect a modern, integrated tax offering inside a growing Registered Investment Advisor.
You'll set the standards, choose the tools, shape the team, and sign the returns - all while working alongside partnered our current Tax Strategists and Wealth Advisors who treat tax as a core part of the client experience, not an afterthought.
This tax offering is designed to serve two distinct client segments inside our business: Wealth Advisory, generally working with households generally between $2M and $20M, and Wealth Builder, serving households generally between $150K and $2M. Our Practice Management team supports both client and advisor experience across these business lines, and tax is the next frontier we're bringing in-house.
What You'll Do
  • Lead the strategy, design, and launch of Curi Capital's in-house tax practice across our Wealth Advisory and Wealth Builder business lines.
  • Oversee and sign individual, trust, and entity tax returns for clients across both service tiers. The pipeline of clients is ready for you.
  • Build the playbook - workflows, quality controls, software stack, client deliverables, and pricing - with the support of leadership and a dedicated tax associate.
  • Partner closely with Wealth Advisors to deliver proactive, planning-driven tax work that's integrated with each client's broader financial picture.
  • Manage and develop a dedicated Tax Associate, with the opportunity to grow the team as the practice scales.
  • Stay ahead of federal and state tax law changes and translate them into clear guidance for clients and advisors.
What We're Looking For
  • Active CPA license (or equivalent credential authorizing you to sign federal tax returns, such as EA) required.
  • Five plus years of public accounting experience, with meaningful exposure to high-net-worth individual, trust, and pass-through entity returns required.
  • Three to five years of managerial experience - you've reviewed work, coached associates, and owned the quality of what goes out the door.
  • Hands-on proficiency with professional tax software such as Intuit Lacerte, CCH Axcess / ProSystem fx, or BNA Income Tax Planner.
  • Strong organizational instincts - you build systems instead of just working harder inside broken ones.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical tax concepts into plain language for clients and advisors.
  • Genuine excitement about building something from the ground up rather than inheriting an established book.
Why This Role
  • Founder-style scope - you're not just running a tax department, you're creating one.
  • Integrated practice - work shoulder-to-shoulder with wealth advisors instead of getting handed 1099s in March.
  • Clear reporting line - you'll report directly to the Director of Practice Management, with executive visibility from day one.
  • Better cadence - a planning-driven model designed to smooth out the brutal compression of traditional public accounting busy seasons.

The base salary will be commensurate with an individual's work experience and educational background.
US Pay Range
$170,000-$200,000 USD
