What is a live in Indonesian translator?

Live-in Indonesian translators are language professionals who reside with a client, family, or within an organization to provide full-time Indonesian language translation and interpretation services. They assist with both spoken and written communication, helping bridge language barriers in daily life, business, or travel situations. Their role often includes translating conversations, documents, and sometimes cultural mediation to ensure clear understanding between parties. This position is especially common for families relocating to Indonesia or for companies hosting Indonesian-speaking guests. Live-in translators must be fluent in both Indonesian and the client's language, and be adaptable to various living and working arrangements.

What are the unique challenges faced by live in Indonesian translators, and how can they manage work-life balance in this role?

Live-in Indonesian translators often face the challenge of maintaining clear professional boundaries while living with their clients, as the lines between work and personal time can easily blur. They may be called upon for immediate translations at any hour or asked to assist with a wide range of tasks beyond language translation. To manage work-life balance, it's important to establish agreed-upon working hours and responsibilities early on and communicate openly with the host family or employer. Building routines and setting aside personal time can help translators recharge and maintain high-quality work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in Indonesian translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Indonesian Translator, you need fluency in Indonesian and at least one other language (often English), along with a strong grasp of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuance, usually demonstrated through relevant language certifications or a degree in translation. Familiarity with translation software such as SDL Trados or MemoQ and experience using digital communication tools are commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and discretion help build trust and facilitate clear communication with clients in a home environment. These competencies ensure accurate, culturally sensitive translations and smooth interactions, which are vital for effective communication and client satisfaction.

Job description

This is an opportunity for a Lead Researcher to join the Kriwacki lab to contribute to cutting-edge, NCI-funded research focused on fusion oncoproteins. As part of the lab and broader program team, you will support the development of key molecular reagents and experimental systems.
The World's Brightest Minds Always Innovate
At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we know what can be achieved when the brightest scientific minds face the fewest barriers. That's why we provide world-class facilities. State-of-the-art technologies. Extraordinary support. And a collaborative, bench-to-bedside environment where you can see, firsthand, how your science translates into survival for the children we serve. Quite simply, at St. Jude, we encourage you to dream big and stop at nothing when it comes to finding cures and saving children.
In this role, you'll work at the intersection of molecular cloning, cell biology, and advanced imaging, helping to generate and characterize molecular tools used to study fusion oncoprotein function and biology. This is a highly collaborative environment where your contributions will directly impact innovative research programs and translational efforts.
If you're excited by hands-on science, eager to build new technical expertise, and motivated to contribute to meaningful advances in cancer biology, this is a unique opportunity to grow and have real impact.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute molecular cloning strategies for generation of fusion oncoprotein constructs and engineered cell lines.
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot assays to study fusion oncoprotein expression, localization, and function.
  • Perform and refine advanced microscopy techniques to investigate protein localization, dynamics and interactions, and cellular phenotypes.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data; present findings at lab and program meetings and participate in pan-program discussions.
  • Collaborate closely with investigators to drive project design, execution, and troubleshooting.

Preferred Skills:
  • Strong background in molecular biology, with emphasis on DNA cloning and construct design.
  • Hands-on experience with recombinant DNA techniques (e.g., plasmid construction, mutagenesis, viral vectors, analysis of DNA sequencing data).
  • Experience with confocal fluorescence microscopy and image analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and transfection/transduction methods.
  • Familiarity with studying protein-protein interactions or oncogenic fusion proteins is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet milestones and associated deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, record-keeping, organization, and leadership skills.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific area is required

Minimum Experience:
  • 5+ years of research experience is required with a Bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of experience is required with a Master's degree.
  • No prior experience required with a PhD.
