What is a live in housekeeper nanny?

Live in housekeeper nannies are professionals who reside in the family’s home and provide both childcare and housekeeping services. Their responsibilities typically include caring for children, preparing meals, tidying up, laundry, and managing household chores. This arrangement offers families flexibility and consistent support, while providing the nanny with accommodation and, often, meals. The role can vary depending on the family's needs, but it generally combines the duties of a nanny and a housekeeper into one position.

What does a live in housekeeper nanny do?

The job duties of a live-in housekeeper/nanny involve providing cleaning and childcare services for a family or members of a household. As a live-in nanny, your responsibilities may vary depending on the service that your employer needs. You may clean, prepare meals, and handle other domestic chores. A nanny may care for children in a household, run errands, and transport family members to school, sports, or appointments. A housekeeper/nanny lives in the home with the family and may help with childcare tasks during the night.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in housekeeper nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Housekeeper Nanny, you need experience in childcare, household management, and basic first aid, often supported by references and sometimes childcare certifications. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, scheduling apps, and meal preparation tools is typically expected. Strong communication, reliability, and discretion are essential soft skills for building trust with families and managing daily routines. These skills ensure a safe, organized, and nurturing environment that supports the needs of both children and household members.

How do live in housekeeper nannies typically balance their responsibilities between childcare and household management?

Live In Housekeeper Nannies are often expected to manage both childcare and household tasks, which requires strong organizational skills and clear communication with employers. Typically, their day is structured around the family's schedule, prioritizing childcare during key times (such as mornings and after school), and completing housekeeping duties like cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation during quieter periods. Open discussions with the family about priorities and expectations help ensure a manageable workload. It’s common for employers to provide a daily or weekly plan, and successful nannies proactively update families about any challenges or changes needed to keep the household running smoothly.
