Are live in GIS analysts in demand?

Live-in GIS analysts are in demand in industries such as urban planning, environmental management, and transportation, where spatial data analysis is essential. The role requires proficiency with GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS and often benefits from relevant certifications, with job growth driven by increasing reliance on geospatial data for decision-making.

Do live in GIS analysts work remotely?

Live-in GIS analysts typically do not work remotely because their role requires physical presence to manage on-site geographic data and infrastructure. Job description

GeoSystems Analysis, Inc., a Trinity Consultants team, is seeking a Project Scientist to join our growing team in the southwest. The Project Scientist performs scientific and technical work supporting environmental consulting projects related to mine closure, heap leach hydrodynamics, managed aquifer recharge, and riparian habitat restoration. This position collects, analyzes, and interprets field and laboratory data; supports hydrologic and geologic investigations; and assists with technical evaluations, modeling, and reporting. The Project Scientist works collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams to develop practical, science-based solutions for domestic and international clients while supporting field investigations, environmental monitoring, and project execution. While ideally based in Tucson, AZ, candidates that are local to our other Trinity offices in the West are encouraged to apply.

What will I be doing?

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams led by technical experts specializing in mine closure, heap leach hydrodynamics, managed aquifer recharge, riparian habitat restoration, groundwater and surface water modeling, and remote/UAV data acquisition.
  • Support mine closure projects involving tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, waste rock facilities, reclamation landforms, cover system design, and stormwater management.
  • Assist with mine water balance evaluations for tailings, heap leach, and waste rock facilities.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret physical, hydraulic, hydrologic, and geochemical data to evaluate fluid flow and contaminant transport within mine waste and heap leach facilities.
  • Conduct field investigations including borehole drilling oversight, monitoring well installation, vadose zone instrumentation, groundwater and surface water sampling, monitoring activities, and UAV-based data collection.
  • Support installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of large-scale environmental monitoring systems.
  • Analyze laboratory and field data using statistical, geospatial, and hydrologic methods to develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports, memoranda, data summaries, figures, and presentations for clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in field assignments at remote domestic and international project locations while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and project team members.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality assurance activities as experience and responsibilities increase.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology, Geosciences, Soil Science, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field required.
  • Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geosciences, Soil Science, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant research, consulting, or applied environmental science experience.
  • Experience supporting mine closure, mine water management, hydrologic investigations, environmental monitoring, or related environmental consulting projects preferred.
  • Previous experience performing fieldwork under physically demanding or remote conditions is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of hydrogeologic, geologic, soil science, and hydrologic principles.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, interpret, and communicate complex scientific and technical data.
  • Preferred experience in GIS analysis, programming (Python), numerical modeling, field data collection, and data analysis/report writing.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites in the Western U.S. and/or internationally.
  • Experience with groundwater flow and transport modeling software such as MODFLOW or HYDRUS is preferred.
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in Spanish is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000 per year. In addition, Geosystems Analysis has a discretionary bonus program that considers business profitability and individual performance.
