Job description

At 3-GIS, the Product Manager for Utilities will play a key role in strengthening our position in the utilities market by working closely with customers, sales, and internal teams to ensure our products align with real-world operational needs. This role is highly customer-facing and focused on deepening our domain understanding of utilities workflows, supporting both existing customers and new sales opportunities, and helping transition customer-specific customizations into scalable, reusable product capabilities.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working directly with customers, translating real-world problems into product requirements, and helping evolve an existing product suite rather than building entirely new products from scratch.
Duties and responsibilities:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Customer Engagement & Industry Understanding:
• Serve as a primary product point of contact for utilities customers, building a strong understanding of their operational workflows, challenges, and priorities
• Develop and maintain domain knowledge across electric, gas, and other utility network management practices
• Act as the internal advocate for utilities customers, ensuring their needs are understood and appropriately represented
Customization to Core Product Integration:
• Work with existing customers to capture, refine, and document requirements for existing customizations
• Translate customer-specific implementations into scalable, broadly applicable product capabilities
• Partner with engineering to ensure new functionality is designed to meet general market needs rather than single-customer use cases
• Help define acceptance criteria and validate that delivered features meet both customer and product standards
Product Requirements & Backlog Management:
• Create clear and actionable product requirements, including functional and non-functional specifications
• Work with Product Owners and engineering teams to prioritize enhancements, defects, and customer-driven initiatives
• Balance competing priorities across customer commitments, product health, and strategic direction
Sales & Pre-Sales Support:
• Support new sales efforts by participating in customer discussions, demonstrations, and solution alignment
• Help articulate how 3-GIS products meet utilities industry needs, even as offerings continue to evolve
• Provide input into proposals, RFP responses, and solution positioning
Cross-functional Collaboration:
• Collaborate closely with engineering, support, services, and sales to ensure alignment across delivery and customer expectations
• Support go-to-market messaging by providing utilities-specific insights and use cases
• Work with services and support teams to understand implementation challenges and recurring customer issues
Market & Product Assessment:
• Contribute to ongoing assessment of the utilities market, including customer needs, competitive positioning, and product viability
• Provide input into product strategy, including identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities
• Evaluate when existing functionality should be enhanced, standardized, or retired
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in product management, business analysis, consulting, or a customer-facing technical role
• 5+ years of working knowledge of electric utility network operations including how utilities use GIS for asset management, field operations, and network documentation
• Experience working with customer requirements and translating them into technical specifications
• Familiarity with GIS platforms (Esri preferred)
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work across technical and business teams
• Ability to operate effectively in evolving product and market conditions
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive, results-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with utility network models or asset management systems
• Experience working with customized enterprise software environments
• Familiarity with SaaS or enterprise software product lifecycle
• Experience supporting sales or pre-sales engagements
• Working knowledge of electric utility network operations in the gas & water domain including how utilities use GIS for asset management, field operations, and network documentation
Working conditions:
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role requires routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers. This role may require up to 35% travel (customer sites, industry events, internal collaboration).
Physical requirements:
The physical requirements outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
This is a largely sedentary role.
This is a remote work-from-home position.
