Position Summary

The Plant Equipment Operator is responsible for operating forklifts and other transport equipment to move materials, unload/load trucks, and support daily plant operations. This role ensures a safe and efficient workplace while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety guidelines, and food safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Operate forklifts and transport equipment to move bins, fruit, packed product, and supplies

- Load/unload incoming and outgoing trucks, including grower shipments

- Prepare delivery receipts, shipping documents, and airway bills as needed

- Inspect and perform minor repairs/adjustments on equipment

- Assist with repairs and servicing of equipment

- Maintain clean and safe work areas, following all safety and food safety procedures

- Support utility crew operations, including repair/maintenance of treatment bins

Qualifications

- High school diploma preferred (not required)

- One year of forklift driving experience required

- Previous experience in food handling or a manufacturing environment preferred

- Ability to read and follow instructions (written and oral)

- Strong teamwork, dependability, and adaptability

- Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in cold/hot environments

Work Environment & Requirements

- PPE (hair net, smock, sleeves, long pants, non-slip footwear) required

- Exposure to cold or hot environments and moving machinery

- Must adhere to Calavo’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

- Responsible for food safety and security awareness in daily duties
