Job description

Overview

Our team of doctors, advanced care providers, nurses, therapists, and researchers provides the region's most advanced medicine at multiple facilities, campuses, clinics, and classrooms. Responsibilities
    • Abides by and enforces all laboratory compliance requirements, departmental policies, patient confidentiality standards, and safety regulations.
    • Performs testing in accordance with established procedures, manufacturer's instructions, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Receives, verifies, labels, accessions, processes, and prepares patient specimens for testing.
    • Evaluates specimen acceptability and rejects unsuitable specimens according to laboratory policy.
    • Performs testing in one or more laboratory disciplines including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology, serology, microbiology, blood bank, and other areas as authorized and trained.
    • Operates, calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
    • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and as-needed preventative maintenance on laboratory analyzers and equipment.
    • Conducts and documents quality control testing and evaluates results for acceptability prior to patient testing.
    • Performs calibration, calibration verification, and other quality assurance procedures as assigned.
    • Recognizes instrument malfunctions and testing discrepancies and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
    • Reviews test results for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established quality standards prior to reporting.
    • Reports and documents laboratory results accurately and within established turnaround times.
    • Communicates critical, urgent, and significantly abnormal test results to appropriate caregivers and documents notifications according to laboratory policy.
    • Performs specimen aliquoting, centrifugation, preservation, storage, and disposal in accordance with laboratory procedures.
    • Processes specimens for referral testing and coordinates shipment to reference laboratories.
    • Assists with microbiology specimen processing, culture setup, specimen preparation, and related laboratory procedures as authorized.
    • Maintains accurate records, logs, worksheets, maintenance documentation, quality control records, and quality assurance documentation.
    • Utilizes the laboratory information system, electronic medical record, and related computer applications for patient testing and documentation.
    • Investigates specimen, testing, and reporting issues and assists with resolution of discrepancies.
    • Participates in proficiency testing programs and assists with corrective action activities when necessary.
    • Ensures compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, state, federal, and institutional laboratory standards.
    • Maintains laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety in accordance with infection control and hazardous materials requirements.
    • Monitors inventory levels of reagents, supplies, controls, and consumables and orders replacements as directed.
    • Receives, stocks, and rotates laboratory supplies and reagents and verifies proper storage conditions.
    • Assists in validation, verification, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of laboratory methods, equipment, and procedures as assigned.
    • Assists with training and competency assessment activities for laboratory personnel as directed.
    • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to support quality patient care.
    • Provides technical support and assistance to Medical Laboratory Technicians, Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, and other laboratory personnel.
    • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of education, training, competency, and regulatory authorization.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards

  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
