Job description

PURPOSE:The Resident Director is to be a godly individual who, by life, example and instruction, assist the Deans in the Student Life Department in dorm management and training of RAs. They are also to contribute to the spiritual development of the students under their care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To lead in the areas of life and ministry.
  2. To faithfully shepherd the student leaders and overall student body.
  3. To effectively implement the Student Handbook.

    1. Availability
        1. Allow for time in your schedule to be in and around students outside of regular scheduled meetings (sporting events dorm devos, other gatherings).
        2. Guiding RA's with a specific student issue
        3. Be informed on what's going on in the dorm
        4. Your availability promotes use of the chain of command

        5. Help them to set and know their priorities and to keep them.
        6. Be present in devos and give feedback when needed.
        7. Create an atmosphere of unity and love within the dorm.
      4. Discipline
        1. Check with RAs to ensure that their RA responsibilities are being done (ie. QT checks, cleanliness, quiet during study hours, etc.)
        2. Are RAs being consistent in giving warnings and/or discipline points
        3. Check to make sure RAs are talking to the students about infractions and not just "writing them up."
      5. Communication
        1. Communicate with the Deans daily on issues that you would deem important for leadership to know.
        2. Check weekly RA reports for:
          1. Praises/prayer requests
          2. Student concerns (health, grades, roommate problems, etc.)
          3. Discipline problems
          4. Students not in dorms at night
  1. Discipline Point System Implementation
      1. Data entry of violation reports
        1. Weekly (on Wednesday by 12 pm) enter violation reports from your assigned dorms
        2. Assign point values, if they need to be changed
        3. Collaborate with Deans on offenses of a critical nature
        4. Cooperate with other RDs by consistently enforcing student handbook policy
      2. Monitor and follow up on students who are accumulating discipline points. If necessary, schedule a deans meeting to discuss the student.
        1. 25 DP's- Follow up with student and email appropriate dean.
        2. 50 DP's- schedule meetings with deans and student.
      3. Monitor those giving violations to ensure that someone is not giving out "too many" or "too few" d-points.
      4. Follow up on students who do not show up for their discipline work hours and assign appropriate discipline.
  1. Administrative Policy Conduct
      1. Fulfill common Bible Institute responsibilities including adherence to the Statement of Faith and Standard of Conduct of Word of Life Fellowship.
      2. Read and familiarize yourself with the contents of the Student Handbook.
      3. Regularly check and respond to communication.
      4. Follow through with the filing of all mandatory reports
      5. Conduct oneself in a professional manner, especially in the office

  1. Responsibilities outside of the Student Life Department are superseded by your job description.
  2. Dating students without consultation of your respective Dean is prohibited.
  1. Room & Board
    1. Housing is provided by WOL
      1. Single RDs will be required to live on-campus in a dormitory
    2. All meals are provided for RD staff members free of charge through the Dining Hall. Meals during school breaks are at the expense of the RDs if they choose to remain on campus as the Dining Hall will be closed.
  2. School Breaks
    1. The RD position is a 9-month position. RDs will receive unpaid time-off during all school breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years, Spring, and Summer breaks). RDs have the option to remain on campus if they so choose.
  1. Summer Ministry Opportunities
  1. Resident Directors will have the option, but not required to, serve at a WOL summer camp during the months that the academic school year is not in session. RDs are encouraged to seek out these opportunities through the Ministries Department. Housing will be provided by the respective camp. Meals will also be provided by the respective camp. Pay rate will be no less than what RDs make per hour during the school year.
