Job description

A Hamptons-based family is conducting a nationwide search for a long-term live-in Family Assistant to become a trusted extension of the mom and help support the daily rhythm of their home.

The ideal candidate is someone who naturally sees the whole picture, notices what needs attention before being asked, and takes genuine pride in creating a calm, organized, and well-supported environment. The ideal candidate understands that supporting a family goes beyond caring for children. It means helping carry the mental load of a busy household, exercising sound judgment, and stepping confidently into whatever is needed on a given day.

The family is looking for a candidate with a strong, grounded presence; someone who is comfortable taking ownership, maintaining structure, and providing calm leadership when needed. This role would be particularly well suited to someone who has extensive private household experience, proxy parenting experience, household management experience, or a background that has required confidence, composure, and excellent judgment.
Candidates who have pursued passions such as equestrian sports, animal training, outdoor leadership, hospitality, education, or other disciplines that require patience, confidence, and consistency may find themselves particularly aligned with the family's lifestyle and values.

This position works alongside an established weekday nanny/house manager and is designed to provide support during mornings, evenings, weekends, and periods of travel. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable helping children navigate daily routines, preparing a family meal, resetting a kitchen, managing household details, or confidently handling a beloved, well-trained, giant-breed dog.

The family places tremendous value on trust, discretion, initiative, and long-term commitment. They are not looking for someone to simply fill a role. They are hoping to find their "forever fit": a trusted right hand who will grow with the family for years to come.

The schedule runs Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday through Friday follow a split schedule, approximately 6:00 AM–8:00 AM and 5:00 PM–8:00 PM. Weekend coverage consists of full-day support on Saturday and Sunday. The family guarantees 40 hours per week.

Private live-in accommodations are provided, including a separate entrance and private bathroom. The family spends winter months in Palm Beach, Florida and hopes the successful candidate will travel and reside with them there during those months.

Childcare

  • Support morning routines, school preparation, mealtimes, bath time, and bedtime routines.
  • Provide calm, confident supervision and leadership.
  • Plan activities, outings, and enriching experiences.
  • Support emotional regulation and age-appropriate boundaries with warmth and consistency.
  • Step confidently into sole-charge care when needed.
  • Travel with the family and provide continuity of care during travel periods.

Household Support

  • Prepare simple, healthy family meals and assist with meal planning.
  • Maintain daily kitchen resets and general household order.
  • Assist with laundry, tidying, and family organization.
  • Support wellness-focused household routines and dietary preferences.
  • Provide care and confident handling of a professionally trained giant-breed dog.
  • Assist wherever needed with a "no task too big or too small" mentality.

Family Support & Daily Operations

  • Serve as a trusted extension of the family and support the overall functioning of the household.
  • Maintain structure, rhythm, and consistency throughout the day.
  • Anticipate needs and proactively identify opportunities to support the family.
  • Assist with errands, household organization, inventory management, and household readiness.
  • Coordinate and prepare for school days, activities, appointments, weekends, and travel.
  • Maintain organized, welcoming, and functional household spaces.

  • Significant experience supporting private households, families, or children in a high-trust capacity.
  • Experience with proxy parenting, household management, family assistance, or similar roles strongly preferred.
  • Strong judgment and ability to make thoughtful decisions independently.
  • Naturally proactive and highly observant.
  • Comfortable balancing childcare, household support, and family assistance responsibilities.
  • Confident, composed, and emotionally intelligent.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Comfortable adapting to changing priorities and family needs.
  • Experience with large dogs or willingness to learn strongly preferred.

  • Professional references demonstrating longevity and trustworthiness.
  • Comfortable living on property in provided accommodations.
  • Willingness to travel and live with the family during seasonal relocations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Discreet, dependable, and highly professional.
  • Comfortable with a split schedule and weekend-focused role.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
  • $40 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Private live-in accommodations provided.
  • Additional benefits to be discussed with the family.
