Blue Ocean Mariculture was founded in 2009 to pursue the sustainable farming of local Hawaiian marine finfish. We are proud to be the only open ocean mariculture farm in the United States. With first-hand experience in commercial capture fisheries and understand that some farming of the oceans is necessary and inevitable.

We are the exclusive producer of Seriola rivoliana, better known by the market name Hawaiian Kanpachi, a premium sashimi-grade fish coveted by chefs at top sushi and fine dining restaurants everywhere. Hawaiian Kanpachi is raised in the clear, clean waters off Kona, Hawaii, using the most environmentally sustainable aquaculture farming methods.

About the Role

We are looking for experienced divers to join our Offshore farm team. The Offshore team is responsible for the day to day operation of our farm. This includes fish feeding and harvesting, cage maintenance, and equipment & vessel maintenance. Our farm is located approximately a half mile off of the west coast of Hawaii Island in Kailua Kona. Our divers live on land and travel daily to our 90 acre farm.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fish husbandry & harvesting - semi-weekly harvests, feeding, loading and tracking of feed, parasite checks & treatment.
  • Maintain fish pens - cage checks & repair, net cleaning, daily mortality collection.
  • Assist with equipment and vessel maintenance.
  • Work onshore and offshore in calm or extreme weather conditions.
  • Perform multiple working dives per day.
  • Works with heavy machinery offshore.
  • Handle and maintain ocean vessels in good working order.


What You'll Bring

Required Experience:

  • Three (3+) years scuba experience or surface supplied air training & certification.

Highly Desired:

  • Responsible and correct use, care and maintenance of both SCUBA and SSBA dive equipment.
  • Knowledge of RGBM dive tables and dive computers.
  • General boat experience

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of safe working practices and self care during diving operations.
  • Knowledge in use and maintenance of auxiliary equipment to diving operations.
  • Knowledge in dive rescue and CPR. Able to fulfill the safety diver role in farm operations.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.


A pre-employment background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle report are required. This position is subject to the US Coast Guard drug testing program under Title 46 CFR 16.230.
