A Live In Exocad Designer is a dental CAD (Computer-Aided Design) professional who specializes in using Exocad software to design dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures. The 'Live In' aspect typically means the designer resides on-site, often within a dental laboratory or clinic, to provide immediate and ongoing support for digital dental design needs. These designers work closely with dentists and dental technicians to ensure accurate and customized restorations for patients. Their expertise in Exocad allows for efficient workflow and high-quality dental prosthetics.

Position: Senior Digital Dental Design Specialist

Location: Huntsville, Alabama (Relocation Assistance Available)

Position Summary

Our full-service dental lab client is seeking an exceptional Senior Digital Dental Design Specialist with advanced expertise in digital dental technology. This is not an entry-level CAD position. Our client is looking for an individual who is recognized as a technical expert in digital design and can elevate the quality, consistency, and efficiency of our digital workflow.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience designing crowns, bridges, implant restorations, custom abutments, and full-arch restorations using Exocad and/or 3Shape Dental System. This individual must understand not only how to operate the software but how to maximize its capabilities to consistently produce highly aesthetic, functional, and clinically successful restorations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design single-unit crowns, bridges, veneers, implant restorations, custom abutments, bars, and complex restorative cases.
  • Create highly aesthetic restorations with proper anatomy, morphology, occlusion, contacts, emergence profiles, and tissue support.
  • Design implant restorations with an understanding of implant biomechanics, restorative principles, and prosthetic-driven treatment planning.
  • Utilize advanced features within exocad and/or 3Shape to optimize fit, function, and esthetics.
  • Troubleshoot difficult restorative cases and develop predictable digital solutions.
  • Improve digital workflows that increase efficiency while maintaining uncompromising quality.
  • Work closely with technicians, managers, and clinicians to achieve outstanding clinical results.
  • Mentor and train other designers, sharing best practices and elevating the technical skill level of the department.
  • Stay current with advancements in CAD/CAM technology, digital dentistry, implant systems, and restorative materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Expert-level proficiency in Exocad and/or 3Shape Dental System.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in digital dental CAD design.
  • Extensive knowledge of fixed prosthodontics, implant restorations, occlusion, morphology, and smile design.
  • Strong understanding of custom abutment design and implant-supported crown and bridge restorations.
  • Ability to produce restorations that require minimal adjustment during manufacturing and seating.
  • Excellent understanding of contour, emergence profile, connector design, occlusion, contacts, and margin integrity.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and elevate the performance of other digital designers.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Technician (CDT) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with multiple implant systems and digital workflows.
  • Experience with full-arch implant restorations (All-on-X), hybrid prostheses, and complex implant cases.
  • Experience with digital smile design and advanced aesthetic anterior restorations.
  • Experience integrating intraoral scans, facial scans, CBCT data, and digital treatment planning.

The Ideal Candidate

Our client is looking for someone who is considered a digital expert by their peers—someone who understands both the art and science of restorative dentistry.

This individual should be able to:

  • Produce restorations with exceptional esthetics and predictable fit.
  • Understand natural tooth anatomy and create lifelike restorations.
  • Solve difficult restorative and implant design challenges.
  • Teach others how to become better designers.
  • Improve the overall quality and consistency of our digital department.

Compensation will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience for an exceptional candidate.
