What is a Live In Environmental Software Engineer?

A Live In Environmental Software Engineer is a professional who develops and maintains software solutions specifically designed to address environmental issues, such as monitoring air and water quality, managing renewable energy systems, or supporting conservation efforts. The 'live in' aspect may refer to engineers who work on-site at facilities or in field locations where environmental monitoring or data collection occurs, allowing them to better understand and respond to real-time environmental challenges. These engineers combine expertise in software development with a passion for sustainability and environmental protection, often collaborating with scientists and environmental specialists to create impactful technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Environmental Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Environmental Software Engineer, you need a strong background in environmental science combined with software development skills, typically supported by a degree in computer science, environmental engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or R), GIS software, and data analysis tools, as well as relevant certifications like LEED or environmental software credentials, are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for working in diverse environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure the development of robust, user-friendly solutions that address environmental challenges and support sustainable practices.

How does a Live In Environmental Software Engineer typically collaborate with scientists and field teams to develop effective solutions?

As a Live In Environmental Software Engineer, you will often work closely with environmental scientists and field teams to understand real-world data collection challenges and translate them into software solutions. This collaboration usually involves regular meetings, on-site fieldwork, and feedback sessions to ensure the software addresses practical needs such as data accuracy, usability in remote locations, and hardware integration. Strong communication and adaptability are crucial, as you'll need to bridge the gap between technical development and environmental fieldwork. This hands-on, team-oriented approach not only makes the role dynamic but also provides valuable experience in multidisciplinary teamwork.

Job Context

Cerbo OptiMantra is a healthcare technology company built for practices actively changing how medicine is delivered. Its platforms serve functional, integrative, direct primary care, concierge, med spa, and behavioral health practitioners who need software that keeps pace with how they work rather than the other way around. Cerbo is architected for clinical depth deep configuration, protocol-specific workflows, and flexibility for holistic and functional medicine practices while OptiMantra is built for scale, with multi-modality breadth, out-of-the-box readiness, and the operational infrastructure that growing practices rely on.

As a Software Engineer, you help develop and maintain scalable, cloud-based software, working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to ship high-quality features and improvements. The work centers on the back-end platform, built with PHP and Laravel, with front-end and full-stack development a significant, recurring part of the role rather than an occasional task you build and maintain user-facing interfaces alongside back-end services. You write clean, testable code, take part in code reviews, support deployment and ongoing maintenance, and collaborate with product managers, designers, and other developers across every phase of the software development lifecycle. This is a 100% remote role within the US.

You fit if you have a solid engineering foundation a computer science degree or equivalent experience, strong problem-solving instincts, and attention to detail and you are eager to learn and grow under the mentorship of senior engineers. You are comfortable with Git, Docker, and Kubernetes and have worked with at least one cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and its services and APIs. You have used AI coding assistants in real work, writing clear, specific prompts and evaluating the output critically catching subtle bugs, inefficiencies, and security issues, and understanding where these tools fall short, from hallucinations to outdated patterns to context-window limits. You communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and collaborate well in a remote team.

How hiring works here

Applying with Provn is designed to get more interviews for the best candidates coming in without a referral. Instead of sending a cold resume into an ATS and waiting, you complete a challenge built for this role and submit a short video walking through how you approached it.

For this role, completing the challenge is required only applications that include the challenge submission will be considered. You build with AI the way you would on the job, then submit your work along with a short video that walks through your thinking.

Why that works in your favor:

  • You show how you actually build and ship with AI, instead of hoping a resume gets it across.
  • Your judgment with AI becomes visible on a real build, which no resume bullet can prove.
  • One challenge puts you in front of the engineering team, scored on the work, with no referral required to get there.

The hiring manager reviews every completed submission, and the strongest candidates go straight to an interview round. No referral needed. Performance over pedigree. Proof over polish.

What's in it for you

Compensation is $100,000-$180,000 based on experience, plus paid time off and company holidays, comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a 401k with company match. Beyond the package, you get real ownership and impact at a fast-growing health-tech company, working fully remotely within the US. Cerbo OptiMantra is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
