THE ROLE
The Tour Ambassador is a dynamic and interactive role at the Observatory, centered on creating memorable guest experiences and ensuring visitors fully engage with the Observatory's offerings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet all guests as they enter assigned areas
  • Ensure safety of all guests while waiting on tour or in assigned areas
  • Provide facts and historical information about the city, visible landmarks,
  • Point out features of interest, speaking at length with regard, and answering related questions
  • Conduct in-depth, specialized talks, and walking tours of the Observatory
  • Provide the highest level of customer service for the guest, resolving issues, and referring any issue that is unable to be satisfactorily addressed to a supervisor-/leader-on-duty
  • Create and prepare specified tour material as needed
  • Perform and present information in a concise, legible manner to guests - speaking clearly and loudly with a commanding presence is a must
  • Work non-traditional hours, nights, weekends, and holidays - as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training - preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years' tour guide or related experience - preferably in an attraction, entertainment or hospitality environment
  • NYC Tour Guide license - preferred
  • Existing knowledge of NYC history and familiarity with NYC landmarks - preferred

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Multilingual - a plus
  • Must be naturally personable, friendly, and welcoming
  • Must possess the highest level of demonstrable professionalism and customer service
  • Naturally creative and innovative - huge plusses
  • A quick learner with ability to handle/prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite of applications (i.e., Excel; PowerPoint; Word) - interest and proficiency in interactive presentations and social media a plus
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with an energetic and outgoing personality
  • Mastery of the English language (verbal and written)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to effectively listen and take direction/instruction
    • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and guests
  • Ability to work extended hours and flexible shifts including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods as well as constantly patrol the observatory floor
  • Ability to strictly adhere to company uniform standards, including the ability to maintain personal hygiene and a well-groomed appearance per appearance policy at all times
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds

COMPENSATION
$25.00/hour + 401(k) plan.
