Job description

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the University building systems, appliances and infrastructure, including inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and modifying components in and around buildings. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will prioritize safety and communication in their work and have a working knowledge of all electrical safety regulations. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will be required to perform various repair tasks and have a strong working knowledge in multiple trades, with demonstrated expertise in carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing. Ability to troubleshoot, prioritize work orders, and maintain building systems with minimal supervision is essential.This is a live-on-campus position working from 2-10:30 pm. The selected candidate is required to reside in employer provided housing located on campus as a condition of employment. Housing and applicable utilities will be provided in accordance to institutional policies. Because of the residential nature of the role, the employee is required to respond to emergencies, critical incidents, or operational needs outside of normal business hours.Duties and Responsibilities:Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to accomplish work efficiently.Ability to analyze problems and make repairs.Working knowledge of carpentry, general repairs, plumbing, and electrical systems in a commercial building setting.Working knowledge of locks and keys is a plus.Repair and paint drywall, and flooring in residence halls.Working knowledge of computer or mobile applications.Use personal protective equipment as required.Ensure proper maintenance and safeguarding of materials and tools against theft or vandalism.Complete required documentation of repairs and service information through the campus work order system.Communicate with management any hazards or risks that require immediate attention.Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and partsCalibrate equipment to provided specificationsDrives utility vehicles to and from work sites.Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to calls after hours.Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external constituents in a collaborative environmentAbility to schedule and manage outside vendors when necessary.Prepare and maintain reports and updates to management.Complete additional duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:A high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of general maintenance experience. Experience in a University setting preferred. Must possess strong knowledge of building trades and preventative maintenance experience; must have strong skills in organization and communication and possess great customer service. Valid Georgia driver’s license and insurable driving record is required.Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:The Facilities Maintenance Technician must have basic knowledge of general maintenance; knowledge and experience in building systems, appliances, carpentry and low voltage systems; experience or background in construction is a plus. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work well with supervisors, coworkers, University community and the public.Work Environment/Physical Demands:Majority of the tasks associated with this position will be performed indoors at multiple campus locations or buildings. Some duties will require the ability to function with exposure to seasonal weather conditions. May have exposure to potential hazards. Ability to stand, bend stop, kneel, reach lift pull, push, and walk for a minimum of three hours.
