Job description

TITLE:ย Assistant Director of Residential Education DEPARTMENT:ย Residential Education EMPLOYMENT STATUS:ย Full-time (35hr week) FLSA STATUS:ย Non-Exempt ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:ย Reports to the Director of Residential Education JOB PURPOSE:
  • Serve as a senior leader in the Department of Residential Education and work in concert with the Director of Residential Education to develop and implement the mission and goals of the department.
  • Oversee all residence life and community development initiatives for the department
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for student issues, needs, and development in all 4 residence halls
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions:
  • Staff Supervision
    • Directly supervise between 3-4 Graduate Residential Coordinators
    • Supervise 38 Head Resident Assistants and Resident Assistants with Graduate Residential Coordinators
    • Oversee the accountability expectations for Resident Assistants, including the performance evaluation, suspensions, and terminations, with the Director of Residential Education
    • Oversee the duty scheduling for RAs and live-in professionals, including break duty and after-hours coverage
  • Community Development Functions
    • Provide direct support and development to all 4 residence halls and the student experience
    • Oversee all programmatic functions for the department, including relationships with other departments and collaborative opportunities
    • Maintain, manage, and work on all requisition processes for all programming budgets in concert with the Administrative Assistant
    • Evaluate, research, and implement new, innovative programming opportunities
    • Train staff and implement a conflict resolution program for all students in roommate/suite conflict scenarios
  • Student & Staff Development
    • Implement, evaluate, and assess all programming initiatives in the department, including theme programming, programming models, and large-scale programming
    • Follow up with students who are experiencing issues on campus
    • Oversee all paraprofessional and graduate staff training
    • Coordinate all in-services, staff meetings, and other needed trainings throughout the year
    • Serve as a Level II Student Conduct Officer for violations of the student code of conduct
  • Other Positional Responsibilities
    • Management of Summer Conferences Assignments, Turnover, and Summer Check-in in partnership with Lifelong Learning.
    • Assist with all operational procedures of the department
    • Serve as a liaison for Residential Education for the day-to-day needs of the students with all other Campus Life offices, including Student Engagement and Activities, the Center for Intercultural Advancement of the Center for Spirituality, Dean of Campus Life Office; primary liaison with Alumni Relations, Career Services, and Title IX Coordinators re: training and programming
    • Participate in major event planning, including Wagner Weekend and Admitted Students Day
    • Serve on committees and task forces as assigned
    • Participate in strategic planning with the Director as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS Work Experience:

Two to five years of progressively responsible experience in residence hall administration.

Education:
  • A Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field is preferred.
  • Conflict resolution knowledge

  • Demonstrated commitment to student development, experience working with diverse constituencies, and the ability to balance students' needs with institutional goals
  • Sound administrative and supervisory skills
Computer Skills:
  • Excellent computing skills: Microsoft Office, eRezLife preferred, e-mail, website design, and Internet
Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
  • Must possess outstanding organizational, planning, communication, training, and interpersonal skills
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
  • Salary $40,000 - $45,000
  • Compensation includes a furnished one-bedroom apartment, utilities, cable, internet, one parking space, and a meal plan
  • The position requires that the Assistant Director live on campus
  • Professional development funding is also available
