TITLE: EXTENDED CARE TEACHER

CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: EXTENDED CARE DIRECTOR

DEPARTMENT: EXTENDED CARE

Job Summary:

The Extended Care Teacher is responsible for providing a nurturing, safe, and engaging environment for children in the after-school care program. This role involves supervising students, supporting their academic needs, managing daily routines, and fostering positive relationships. The teacher will contribute to the program's mission by extending the warmth and care of home, ensuring that each child feels valued and supported in their growth and development.Please note that this position is hiring for the Fall of 2026-27.


Key Responsibilities:

Student Supervision and Engagement:

  • Greet students and manage their check-in/check-out process.
  • Establish and enforce expectations for behavior and routines.
  • Facilitate academic support, including homework assistance and guidance.
  • Plan and conduct engaging activities aligned with the program's objectives.

Classroom Management:

  • Prepare the room for daily activities, including setting up materials and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervise students during recess, monitor bathroom use, and maintain overall classroom cleanliness.
  • Conduct a final sweep of the room to ensure all personal belongings are collected and the space is clean.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with students, providing clear instructions and support.
  • Work collaboratively with aides and other staff members to ensure smooth operation of the program.
  • Inform and update parents regarding their child's status and ensure a positive end-of-day experience.

Safety and Well-being:

  • Ensure that safety protocols are followed at all times, including monitoring bathroom use and securing playground areas.
  • Respond to any incidents or concerns with appropriate actions and documentation.
  • Ensure students' safety to parents'/guardians' vehicles as they dismiss.

Program Contribution:

  • Uphold and model Christian values (Fruit of the Spirit, etc), supporting the mission to educate children from Christian families and encourage service to the Kingdom.
  • Contribute to a positive, community-oriented atmosphere where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with a team.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Calvin Christian's Extended Care Program.
  • Knowledge of Christian teachings and Reformed perspective is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and climb as required for cleaning and maintenance tasks

Pay & Benefits

This position is a part-time hourly position. Hourly rate ranges between $16-$18 (commensurate with experience). This role is not eligible for benefits but does accrue Self-Care Time (SCT) per school policy.


Required Hours

Extended Care operates during the following times:

Morning Care Hours: 6:45 - 8:00 AM (Monday through Friday)

Afternoon Care Hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:45-6:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 2:00-6:00 PM

Shift end times may vary depending on daily student attendance and required staff-to-student ratios. There are also several half days throughout the school year. On these days, shifts run from 11:45 AM-6:00 PM, with end times varying based on student attendance and staffing needs.


Travel Requirements

No regular travel required.


Working Conditions

Work is performed in and around the school campus. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors at moderate noise levels.
