Live In Bug Tester information

What is a live in bug tester?

Live in bug testers are quality assurance professionals who reside on-site, often within a development or production environment, to continuously test software, hardware, or systems for defects. Their unique role allows them to provide real-time feedback and catch issues as they occur in a live or near-live setting. This approach is especially valuable in industries where constant monitoring and immediate response to bugs are crucial, such as gaming, smart home technologies, or critical software systems. Live in bug testers help ensure a higher standard of quality by identifying and reporting issues before they impact end users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in bug tester?

To thrive as a Live In Bug Tester, you need a keen eye for detail, analytical thinking, and a foundational understanding of software testing principles, often supported by experience or formal education in computer science or quality assurance. Familiarity with bug tracking tools (such as JIRA), test case management systems, and knowledge of various operating systems and devices is typically required. Excellent communication, patience, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for reporting issues effectively and collaborating with development teams. These skills are essential to ensure software quality, usability, and timely identification and resolution of issues in real-world environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by live in bug testers, and how can they effectively manage them?

Live In Bug Testers often encounter challenges such as maintaining objectivity while using the product over extended periods and balancing thorough testing with daily life activities. Since they live with the product, separating testing from regular use can be tricky, so keeping detailed logs and following structured testing protocols is crucial. Effective communication with development teams is also key, as testers need to clearly report issues and suggest improvements based on real-life scenarios. Cultivating time management skills and setting clear boundaries between testing tasks and personal time can help testers manage these challenges successfully.

How much do live in bug testers make?

Live-in bug testers typically earn between $20,000 and $40,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of testing tasks. Compensation may include room and board, with some positions offering additional benefits or hourly wages for specific testing activities.

Help build, support and operate technology used by more than 8,000 organizations in over 100 countries - moving AI from possibility to production in real-world enterprise environments every day.

At Genesys,we are at the forefront of cloud platform solutions and get the opportunity to explore modern technologies while developing solutions for our customers and teams. We constantly learn from our peers and grow as a team and a platform. If you are looking for a position where you can demonstrate your engineering and testing skills to discover answers for unsolved problems, keep reading and hear more about what we have to offer!

About this team:

The Genesys Cloud Analytics platform is the foundation on which decisions are made that directly impact our customer's experience as well as their customers' experiences. We are a data-driven company, handling tens of millions of events per day to answer questions for both our customers and the business. From new features to enable other development teams, to measuring performance across our customer base, to offering insights directly to our end-users, we use our terabytes of data to move customer experience forward.

What this role is:

As a Lead Software Engineer in Test, you will be designing test strategies for new features developed for our Batch Analytics Team. You will help drivethe testing effort as a member of a cross functional team including Product Management, Development, UX, and Documentation. Responsibilities include understanding the architecture and design decisions, defining and implementing new tests and automation, evaluating the end user experience, and asserting the overall quality of the feature.

What this role isn't:

It is not just executing tests or maintenance of test jobs and pipelines, and is not a pure automation role, but one focused on a holistic approach to quality: manual, automated, accessibility, security, performance, scalability. This role isn't narrowly focused on one service and one team, but an opportunity to collaborate with multiple teams distributed across the globe.

What you will bring to the table:

We are looking for someone who is strong technically, but also a skilled communicator. You will coordinate with talented peers to identify risks and design solutions to mitigate them. After learning our product and process, you will contribute code to a shared automated testing project that includes tests executed daily and ina multitude ofdeployment environments. You will be able to recommend and prototype new tools and techniques to help us optimize and evolve our process, apply your skills to guide junior team members, and provide input and feedback to peers.

Some details about what you will do:

  • Enable the team with knowledge and automation to ensure quality on their services.

  • Review design and architecture and evaluate risks and the scope of testing required.

  • Develop a test plan and strategy with the delivery team

  • Design and implement new automated tests for APIs and data pipelines.

  • Coordinate exploratory testing and participate in bug hunts to gather feedback on user experience

  • Maintain automated test jobs in our TestNG based framework by triaging failed automation test executions in our Jenkins pipelines and report defects and make fixes/updates to test code

  • Participate in Design and Code Reviews to provide feedback to other engineers and improve our testing framework

You may be a fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in professional software testing

  • An openness to mentoring and collaborating with junior members of the team.

  • Experience with:

  • Java or Python;other object-oriented languages are a plus.

  • Jenkins or equivalent CI/CD tools

  • Web-scale data and large-scale distributed systems, ideally on cloud infrastructure.

  • Designing test plans for cloud software

  • REST API testing (functional and automation)

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as EC2, S3 and Lambda

  • Testing microservices and end-to-end usage of them within a multi-tenant cloud application.

Technologies we use and practices we hold dear:

  • Right tool for the right job over we-always-did-it-this-way.

  • We pick the language and frameworks best suited for specific problems.

  • AWS for cloud infrastructure.

  • Automation for everything. CI/CD, testing, scaling, healing, etc.

  • Jenkins for CI/CD

  • TestNG Java test harness.

  • Hadoop and Spark for batch processing

  • Airflow for orchestration.

  • DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Presto, and S3 for query and storage.
