What are the typical daily responsibilities of a live in boat sitter?

As a live-in boat sitter, your daily responsibilities often include monitoring the vessel’s systems (such as bilge pumps, batteries, and ventilation), performing light cleaning and routine maintenance, and ensuring the boat remains secure and docked safely. You may also be asked to water plants on board, handle mail or deliveries, and keep an eye on weather conditions that could affect the vessel. Communication with the boat owner about any issues and maintaining detailed logs are also common tasks, ensuring the boat is well cared for during the owner’s absence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in boat sitter?

To thrive as a Live-In Boat Sitter, you need a solid understanding of basic boat maintenance, safety protocols, and often some prior experience with boats or marine environments. Familiarity with marine navigation systems, bilge pumps, electrical systems, and sometimes a boating license or first aid certification is typically required. Strong problem-solving, responsibility, and communication skills are crucial for managing emergencies and keeping owners informed. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure the vessel’s safety, security, and functionality while it is under your care.

Boat sitters may also handle minor repairs and ensure the boat remains in good condition, deterring theft or damage. This arrangement can be mutually beneficial, providing sitters with unique accommodation while giving owners peace of mind. The specifics of the role can vary based on the boat type, location, and owner's needs.
