Substitute Bus Driver
Districtwide
Hourly Rate: $29.74
General Description: The substitute bus driver will transport students to and from school and other sites within the designated route(s) ensuring the safety and welfare of passengers while operating a school vehicle.  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules; picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
  • Services bus with gas and checking tires and batteries when necessary.
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy and/or individual educational plans.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Attends various meetings regarding safety, students, first aid and other training as required.
  • Operate a two-way radio
  • Perform related duties as required.

  • Able to work independently and exercise initiative.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the Delaware Motor Vehicle Code and District policies related to the operation of vehicles used to transport school children.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices.
  • Knowledge of of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE including suspected child abuse and/or neglect.
  • Knowledge of how to communicate and provide information to co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
