Job description

Direct Counsel has partnered with a prestigious law firm that specializes in subrogation. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Civil Litigation Associate Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience handling a range of civil litigation matters from inception through trial, including case evaluation, discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled litigator to gain hands-on experience and grow within a collaborative and client-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters independently and in collaboration with senior attorneys

  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and legal memoranda

  • Represent clients in court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, and depositions

  • Develop case strategies and provide sound legal advice to clients

  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses

  • Participate in settlement negotiations and prepare trial materials

  • Ensure compliance with court rules, deadlines, and internal procedures

  • Maintain accurate and organized case files and billing records

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Active bar membership in California or Michigan

  • 2+ years of civil litigation experience required

  • Strong writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

  • Commitment to professionalism, ethics, and client service

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with Subrogation
