ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY - Bellingham, WA (98225)
Responsibilities:
• Provides legal representation to clients at all stages of legal proceedings.
• Reviews discovery and court pleadings, researches legal issues raised by the facts, and counsel clients involved in these proceedings.
• Directs investigation of case and communicates on a regular basis with investigators and experts to coordinate internees, disclosures and use of the discovery process to compel records.
• Visits crime scenes and all other case related sites.
• Prepares and brings motions, presents legal arguments clearly and logically in written and verbal form.
• Conducts pretrial negotiations with assigned prosecutors.
• Conducts bench trials and jury trials.
• Communicates regularly with clients.
• Works cooperatively with co-counsel, staff and interns.
• Independently manages a caseload with efficiency to ensure each client receives best possible representation.
• Comply with continuing requirements to improve effectiveness. Maintain knowledge of current practices and developments in the law. Attend continuing legal education seminars as required by the WSBA.
• Interact with all participants of the criminal justice system in a way that promotes respect, including clients who may be struggling.
• Position requires a commitment to zealously defend clients at all stages of criminal proceedings.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience in criminal law preferred, but not required.
• Member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association, or Rule 9 status.
• Strong communication skills.
Salary & Benefits:
• $80,000 - $135,000 salary (DOE & qualifications)
