Summary

Be a vital link in the supply chain that keeps operations moving. As a Live Haul Driver, you will transport live chickens from poultry farms to the processing plant using a tractor trailer, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, humanely, and within required timeframes. Your attention to animal welfare, safe driving practices, and reliability will directly support farm partners and plant operations. This role is ideal for safety focused drivers who take pride in professional service and play an essential role in the production process.

This position has a base rate of $30.60 per hour, with opportunities for overtime where applicable. Annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

In addition to hourly wages, Perdue offers a competitive benefits package, including medical/Rx, 401(k) with employer match after 1 year, critical illness, accident insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, optional group life insurance, short-term and long-term disability protection, flexible spending accounts and paid time off.

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Makes a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of truck and trailer and fill out DOT inspection forms at end of each trip.
  • Drives to and from farms, making 1 to 4 trips day and night with a driving range of 30 minutes to 4 hours without a stop.
  • Carry cover during winter and assist with covering load when temperature is below 30 degrees.
  • Cross scale with tractor and trailer before going to farms and when returning fill trucks with fuel before scaling the full load.
  • Secure empty modulars before leaving plant and make sure full modulars are secured before returning.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years’ experience driving tractor-trailers.
  • Class A CDL license.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Work is performed outdoors and in poultry house environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, odors, noise, and uneven or muddy terrain.
  • Position requires extended sitting, frequent climbing, bending, and walking on uneven surfaces, with the ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Must be able to safely operate a commercial vehicle while following all safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity protocols.
