Live Event Camera Operator information

What is a live event camera operator?

A Live Event Camera Operator is responsible for capturing high-quality video footage of live events, such as concerts, sports, conferences, and performances. They operate cameras, adjust framing and focus, and follow cues from a director to ensure dynamic and engaging coverage. This role requires technical proficiency with camera equipment, an understanding of live production workflows, and the ability to adapt to fast-paced environments. Depending on the event, operators may work with handheld, tripod-mounted, or remote-controlled cameras. Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential for coordinating with producers and other crew members.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live event camera operator?

To thrive as a Live Event Camera Operator, you need strong technical proficiency with video cameras, understanding of shot composition, and experience capturing dynamic live footage, often supported by a background in film, broadcasting, or media production. Familiarity with equipment like broadcast cameras, wireless transmission systems, and live production switchers is common, and certifications in camera operation or safety may be advantageous. Excellent communication, adaptability, and teamwork set standout candidates apart in high-pressure, fast-paced event settings. The position supports operational assessments by identifying trends, tool limitations, and procedural gaps that could impact mission success. The Intermediate BSA Operator also mentors junior operators during live events and supports integration of new SDA capabilities through operational testing and feedback. This role is performed full-time on site at a government facility and is contingent upon contract award.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently monitor and assess SDA tools, threat reporting, and operational cues to identify significant space events and I&W.
  • Maintain and validate RSO custody for high-interest objects; reconcile discrepancies across approved data sources and document assumptions.
  • Lead event characterization (pattern-of-life, behavior changes, timelines, confidence) and provide COA recommendations to mission leadership.
  • Initiate and execute checklist responses when criteria are met; coordinate with mission partners to deconflict actions and report impacts.
  • Develop and deliver routine and ad hoc briefings for leadership, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and proper classification markings.
  • Support operational assessments by analyzing recurring events and tool performance; recommend updates to TTPs, thresholds, or workflows.
  • Mentor junior operators during shifts and live events; provide on-the-job training and perform quality checks on products.
  • Support integration and operational employment of new capabilities by participating in test events, documenting findings, and validating procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Master's degree and 7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise OR Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise OR no degree and 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise.
  • Active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with adjudicated polygraph.
  • Demonstrated experience performing space domain awareness, space operations, or mission protection functions in a high-tempo environment.
  • Demonstrated experience producing operational reporting/briefings and coordinating responses across mission partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with STK or other SDA/astrodynamics tools and associated operational workflows.
  • Experience supporting checklist development, threshold tuning, or TTP refinement for mission protection operations.
  • Experience supporting system integration activities as an operational end user (UAT, OT&E support, or tool transition).

Basic Compensation:

$125,500 - $153,400

This range is for the Virginia area only

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
