What You Will Contribute:

The Technical Product Specialist I is a customer-facing role responsible for providing timely, professional, and effective technical support for Badger Meter products sold throughout North America. This role serves as the primary point of contact for customers and focuses on resolving product-related issues through clear communication, structured troubleshooting, and sound technical judgment.

Technical Product Specialists I are expected to communicate clearly, listen actively, and guide customers through troubleshooting steps while maintaining a professional, respectful, and reassuring presence-particularly when customers are frustrated, concerned, or impacted by service interruptions. The role requires the ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations while managing multiple interactions and priorities.

Job Duties:

  • Respond to customer inquiries related to Badger Meter products via phone and written communication in a professional and composed manner.

  • Actively listen to customer concerns, ask clarifying questions, and confirm understanding prior to providing troubleshooting guidance or recommendations.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues within the defined scope of the Technical Product Specialist I role, accurately documenting actions taken, findings, and outcomes.

  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor when handling upset or frustrated customers, applying verbal de-escalation techniques as needed.

  • Identify issues that exceed the scope of the role and escalate appropriately while maintaining ownership of customer communication.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to support issue resolution and ensure accurate information is provided to customers.

  • Provide technical assistance to Customer Service related to product configuration and application questions.

  • Manage multiple customer interactions during high-volume periods or outage situations.

  • Work flexible scheduled hours to meet technical resource demands, including participation in rotational on-call or pager coverage as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or 0-2 years experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

  • Relevant experience in a technical, product support, or customer-facing technology role preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with customers in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.

  • Ability to listen actively, analyze information, and guide customers through structured troubleshooting steps.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when documenting customer interactions and technical findings.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and customer interactions simultaneously.

  • Participation in rotational on-call or after-hours support as required.
