Heavy Duty Service Mechanic

WORKING HOURS: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, ½ hour lunch. Overtime is available depending on workload.

Job Summary/Objective of Job

This position is responsible for rebuilding and repairing heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This position focuses on the replacement of mechanical drivetrain components, including transmissions, differentials, clutches, and driveshafts. Occasionally, this role will be responsible for other repairs and services, such as replacement of electrical drivetrain components.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Removal and reinstallation of heavy-duty drivetrain components in an efficient, safe, and accurate manner
  • Repair malfunctioning components including but not limited to brakes, brake lines, hydraulic lines, steering components, electrical components, pumps, valve bodies, etc. to ensure they are in the proper condition to operate effectively.
  • Perform routine, DOT maintenance on trucks, as needed.
  • Performs road tests on customer vehicles to assist in problem isolation or to verify repair procedures.
  • Crosstrain on alternate assignments and perform duties in other work areas as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of heavy-duty mechanic experience
  • Master State Certification or equivalent experience to include Heavy Duty Brakes, Suspension/Steering systems, Driveline, and Electrical.
  • Diagnostic skills to troubleshoot.
  • Able to work mostly independently with little to no supervision.
  • Must be able to provide own hand tools up to ¾ drive.
  • CDL required or able to obtain.
  • Good communication skills


Physical Demands

  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifting and carrying heavy equipment and parts, often weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing and walking around the workshop or job site.
  • Bending and Stooping: Regular bending, stooping, and crouching to access and repair vehicles and machinery.
  • Reaching and Handling: Frequent reaching overhead and handling tools and parts.
  • Manual Dexterity: Using hand tools and power tools, requiring good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Climbing: Occasionally climbing ladders or steps to access higher areas of vehicles or equipment.
  • Kneeling and Crawling: Kneeling and crawling under vehicles or in tight spaces to perform inspections and repairs.
  • Visual Acuity: Good vision to read manuals, and schematics, and to perform detailed inspections and repairs.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear and identify mechanical noises and alarms.
  • Communication: Clear verbal communication with team members and customers.
