As a Senior Database Engineer within the Optum Financial Services Tech team, you will be a key contributor to building and optimizing the highly scalable data foundations that power our financial healthcare ecosystem. In this role, you will tackle complex data architecture challenges and real-time transaction processing using innovative technologies such as cloud-native database platforms, automated CI/CD pipelines, and advanced data security frameworks. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of database administration including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery
  • Proficiency with network troubleshooting tools and techniques
  • Linux System Administration
  • Develop/implement Linux tooling - Linux utility suite, shell, Python, etc.
  • Change management including maintenance of multiple development, test, QA, and production environments. Responsible for deploying approved changes to production
  • 247 rotational on-call support, including driving Root Cause Analysis (RCA), preventative action follow-through, and participation in weekly operations reviews
  • Proactive database monitoring and issue resolution
  • Database and PL/SQL optimization including performance tuning, query optimization and supportability; experience with Oracle 19c
  • Actively participate and contribute to projects involving enterprise systems enhancements
  • Participate in project design and Oracle database design decisions. Refine and troubleshoot the design
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation about the database and the data architecture
  • Regular proactive capacity planning and tending reviews of all oracle databases. Producing weekly, monthly management reports
  • Project Estimation process - including attending project kick-offs and design reviews as necessary to appropriately size new environments, recommend infrastructure solutions and deliver associated cost and resource effort estimates
  • Develop and implement Database security policies and procedures, in line with corporate objectives

  • 10 years of DBA administration experience
  • 5 years of experience in database design, SQL, and stored procedure development experience

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field  
  • 2 years of Database Tuning experience
  • 2 years of cloud experience
  • 2 years of automation and/or scripting experience
