Job description

The Linux Systems Engineer role is responsible for providing mid to high level support on a Linux based infrastructure/application, and network monitoring and diagnostics support. This role will require occasional after hours, non-standard schedules, and evening/night/weekend shifts to support 24/7 operations.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
  • Planning, designing, testing, and implementation of new solutions and services.
  • Review and recommend improvements to the existing infrastructure and technologies where applicable.
  • Installation, configuration, testing, maintenance and upgrading of operating systems, applications software, hardware, storage, virtualization platforms, and system management tools.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for advising and consulting of new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
  • Interpret security scans and audits to make required adjustments to remediate deficiencies or propose compensating controls.
  • Work with IS security team to secure infrastructure systems, including OS and application patching, logging, and monitoring.
  • Managing and monitoring of IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impacts of issues.
  • Perform backup recovery operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Lead support efforts, making sure all applications, servers, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions to the business.
  • Will be a Subject Matter Experts on all company software and hardware providing documentation for lower tier administrators and technicians to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Work with vendors and other IT personnel on problem resolution.
  • Provide tier 3 resolutions for complex issues; maintain an occasional on-call status after work hours.

What You'll Need
  • 3-5 years demonstrated skills in a high-tech environment, emphasizing skills in infrastructure management
  • Experience with RedHat Satellite
  • Experience with IPA/IDM
  • Experienced knowledge in Linux/Unix operating systems and command line
  • Fundamental knowledge of SAN and NAS storage devices.
  • Knowledge of or experience with scripting and automation tools
  • Must have strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP networks and troubleshooting tools
  • Diagnose performance problems using available standard performance tools and system indicators
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in troubleshooting, problem determination, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Superior analytical skills to assess and resolve issues in a complex technical environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and effectively to resolve client concerns/issues
  • Strong attention to detail in a structured environment
