The RCS Linux Cyber Security Administrator (CSA) is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations and protecting Geophysical Institute (GI) systems by a) focusing on maintaining the security of Linux environments, b) monitoring, detecting, and responding to cyber threats, c) implementing system security controls, d) conducting vulnerability assessments, e) performing incident response, f) maintaining the endpoint management and SIEM tools, and g) scripting (Shell, Python) or programming (C, Ruby, PHP, Javascript) for automation, while staying updated on new threats and ensuring compliance with standards like NIST and CMMC. The CSA evaluates computer systems, software, and other technologies to detect security weaknesses, protect sensitive information, and implement modifications to strengthen security measures. In the event of a cyberattack, they work quickly to mitigate the situation and ensure that no data remains vulnerable.

Position Details:
This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment.
This position is full-time, Grade 80 , term-funded, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , based on education and experience.
