Water/Wastewater Senior Project Engineer

The Water/Wastewater Practice is seeking a Project Engineer in Spokane, WA, Boise, ID, Coeur d’Alene, ID, Pocatello, ID, or Salt Lake City, UT.

The ideal candidate will support and lead the delivery of complex municipal (special purpose district and/or city) water and wastewater projects. This role is suited for an experienced engineer who can independently manage major design tasks, contribute to project delivery, and play a key role in mentoring staff and supporting client relationships.

What You’ll Do Key Responsibilities
  • Lead planning and design for municipal water and wastewater systems, including:
    • Conveyance and pumping systems
    • Storage and distribution systems
    • Collection systems and treatment facilities
  • Manage complex design tasks and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • Prepare and oversee engineering deliverables including plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and design standards
  • Serve as Engineer of Record or technical lead on projects
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff
  • Review work for technical accuracy and quality
  • Support team development and contribute to a collaborative environment
Client Engagement & Business Development
  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal (special purpose district and/or city) clients and regulatory agencies
  • Support proposal development, interviews, and pursuit strategies
  • Participate in professional organizations and industry engagement
What You Bring Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field); PE license required or ability to obtain
  • 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, with a focus on water and wastewater systems
  • Strong experience in municipal (city and/or special purpose district) water/wastewater system design
  • Proven ability to lead design efforts and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience managing or supporting projects through all phases of delivery
  • Familiarity with public agency processes, permitting requirements, and regulatory coordination
  • Proficiency with standard engineering tools (e.g., hydraulic modeling, drafting/design software, Bluebeam, spreadsheets)
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
