Job description

Purpose:
This position will be part of a small team supporting systems and technologies related to the use of CentOS Linux platforms. Diverse responsibilities include supporting storage systems, databases, and virtualization. Responsible for the analysis, installation, maintenance, custom automation backups, and upgrades of computer hardware and software. Proposes and implements system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system, including security integrity controls. The position requires off-hour support in rotation with other team members.
Knowledge / Experience:
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience working with multiple operating systems; primarily CentOS environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Software programming for system automation tasks.
  • Client-server experience and experience working with system installation and maintenance upgrades.
  • Understanding of systems, I/O, and networks as it pertains to the operating system.
  • Ability to work independently to research technical issues.
  • A College degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

Required Skills:
  • Proficient skill level working with Linux, system security, account management and shell scripts, and Perl programming
  • Proficient networking skills

  • Communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:
  • Perl or other scripting languages
