Job Type: Onsite – U.S. citizenship required; Secret level DoD security clearance must be obtained and maintained.

Overview

Software Engineer II – Advanced Technology and Capabilities Directorate. Develop embedded Linux systems for communications, information assurance, and general‑purpose processing, collaborating with FPGA, hardware, and systems teams to embed advanced technology into Mission Systems products.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and continuously enhance a customized Linux OS ecosystem, including build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and BSP for multiple hardware boards.
  • Contribute to coding, testing, delivery, and ongoing support for embedded Linux software systems.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis and resolution of complex hardware‑software issues.
  • Prepare software builds for simulation environments, reference platforms, and target hardware.
  • Utilize Collins Aerospace processes and tools to improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide engineering estimates for tasks such as change requests or problem reports.
What You Will Learn

Work with an experienced team to learn best practices and Collins’ engineering processes for world‑class embedded solutions, cutting‑edge technologies, and practical application of embedded Linux and low‑level software in communications, security, and space‑based products.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret level). U.S. citizenship required.
  • Working knowledge of Linux command‑line tools and environments.
  • Experience developing or supporting embedded C/C++ applications.
  • Familiarity with Python and/or Bash scripting.
  • Exposure to hardware integration, board bring‑up, or embedded systems development.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using standard debugging tools.
  • Experience with GIT or SVN version control systems (preferred).
  • Experience packaging custom Linux distributions with Buildroot (preferred).
  • Experience developing and maintaining Linux board support packages (BSP) for embedded systems (preferred).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevSecOps (preferred).
