Job description

Responsible for unique or complex information systems and/or information technology projects across more than one discipline, such as application support, database administration, software quality assurance/quality control, software engineering, network telecommunications, and infrastructure operations of administration, analysis, engineering and design. Provides direction to other IT Administrators on the project in a senior administrator capacity. Considered a technical specialist in a variety of IT administrator disciplines.

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain AIX OS systems in a virtual environment.
  • Plan, install, test, and implement upgrades and patches to AIX OS.
  • Provides tier 2 and 3 supports for escalations from Help Desk.
  • Knowledge and experience troubleshooting Linux and Unix based systems.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24x7x365 infrastructure operations support.
  • Support infrequent after hours and weekend escalations as needed (aside from on-call rotation).
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization as well as perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Utilize tools and processes, including but not limited to software distribution, backups, performance measurement, tuning, license and asset management to allow automated as well as remote systems management of the server environment.
  • Provide support to resolve incident, problem, or service requests that require subject matter expertise and cannot be resolved by the EOC. Task personnel shall provide final problem resolution.
  • Work with Enterprise Operations Center (EOC) to implement automated preventative measures, proactive monitoring and system self-healing capabilities to limit outages/performance issues which impact service levels.
  • Contribute to the Root Cause Analysis efforts when applicable.
  • Applies scripting methodologies to automate IT Admin related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent relevant experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 8-15 years of overall experience in information technology, systems administration or other IT related field to include: 5+ years of experience providing operations and maintenance support, including experience identifying/resolving performance issues in a UNIX Environment (Linux, Ubuntu, and/or AIX), 5+ years of experience with Veritas Cluster Server (VCS), including configuration and failover testing, 5+ years of experience with shell scripting, 5+ years of experience supporting infrastructure design and configuration of products including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications, and 4+ years of experience providing quality assurance review and the evaluation of new and existing software products.
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Skills

  • IBM Certified System Administrator - AIX.
  • Experience with IBM Tivoli Monitoring and/or NetCool Omnibus.
