Job description

Laboratory Systems Administrator

This role is focused on providing exceptional desktop support, maintaining IT devices within a scientific laboratory environment, and performing systems administration tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT support, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, research-driven setting. This position requires completion of specified certifications within the first two years of hire for employees who do not already possess them, with department support available.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems, network troubleshooting, systems administration, and familiarity with laboratory IT devices. Experience with Microsoft Intune is required.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

Team Player: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of and the ability to attain the certifications below:

Physical Demands: Sit at a desk for extended periods of time. Lift computers, servers, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Desktop Support – Provide comprehensive support for desktop systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software.
  • Laboratory IT Devices – Support and maintain IT devices used in scientific laboratories including specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Systems Administration – Perform systems administration tasks, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
  • User Assistance – Assist staff and researchers with IT-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to their work.
  • Microsoft Intune Support - Manage and support IT devices using Microsoft Intune, including device enrollment, configuration, and compliance policies.
  • Inventory Management – Maintain an accurate inventory of IT equipment and ensure all devices are properly documented and tracked.
  • Documentation – Create and maintain detailed documentation of IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
