Principal Linux Architect
About your role:
Fiserv is seeking a highly experienced Principal Linux Architect to provide strategic leadership for enterprise Linux platforms across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
What you'll do:
  • Develop enterprise Linux architecture standards, roadmaps, and reference architectures.
  • Lead architecture reviews and approve strategic platform designs impacting multiple business units.
  • Design highly available, scalable, and resilient Linux infrastructure supporting mission-critical payment and financial systems.
  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, and related automation tools.
  • Architect enterprise automation frameworks for provisioning, configuration management, patching, and compliance validation.
  • Lead hybrid cloud and multi-cloud Linux strategies across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Design and govern container platforms including Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • Define Linux operating system standards, hardening baselines, lifecycle management processes, and security controls.
  • Partner with Information Security teams on PCI-DSS, SOX, NIST, FFIEC, and audit requirements.
  • Provide executive-level guidance regarding platform modernization, technical debt reduction, and infrastructure investment priorities.
  • Establish observability, monitoring, reliability, and disaster recovery standards.
  • Serve as highest-level escalation point for complex Linux performance, stability, networking, storage, and operating system issues.
  • Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and service-level objectives (SLOs).
  • Mentor senior engineers, architects, and technical leaders across the organization.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic adoption plans.
  • Lead large-scale datacenter migrations, cloud transformations, platform consolidations, and modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, and business leaders to align technology strategy with business objectives.
  • Create governance processes ensuring consistency, security, and operational excellence across enterprise Linux environments.

Experience you'll need to have:
  • 12+ years Linux engineering experience; 8+ years enterprise architecture experience; expert knowledge of Linux, cloud, automation, security, networking, storage, and platform engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with enterprise-scale automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage technical and executive audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline, or equivalent military/work experience.

Experience that would be great to have:
  • Financial services, fintech, banking, or highly regulated industry experience.
  • Experience leading enterprise cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with: OpenShift, Kubernetes, Service Mesh technologies, Observability platforms
  • Experience supporting large-scale, multi-datacenter environments.
  • Relevant certifications such as: Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) &/or Terraform Associate.
  • Experience with CIS benchmarks.

How you'll work:
  • Fiserv emphasizes in-person collaboration to help you grow your career while shaping the future of fintech; this role is on-site Monday through Friday.
  • This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment.

Travel:
  • Approximately 15% travel off-site or to other office locations is expected.
