Job description

Summary:
The IT Systems Engineer assists in the streamlined operation of the IT Department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization. The IT Systems Engineer will primarily execute implementations of technology, as well as troubleshoot and maintain existing platforms, perform maintenance of platforms (Messaging, Storage, Telecom, Virtualization, Networking, Active Directory, etc.). They will maintain process consistency, research new technologies, and make improvement recommendations to management.
 
Responsibilities

  • Research, design, implement, and troubleshoot information systems and technology solutions in support of business needs
  • Review troubleshooting procedures, operations manuals, and user guidance
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, networks, applications, and security
  • Deploy and manage virtual systems, storage, and associated infrastructure
  • Define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations
  • Direct research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts
  • Develop and maintain robust LAN, WAN, and Cloud capabilities, and evaluate appropriate premise and hosted offerings

 
Qualifications

  • Knowledge of network technologies, server operating systems, and Cloud technologies including Azure/365
  • Technical knowledge of current network and server hardware protocols and standards
  • Extensive end-user systems and application support experience
  • Strong working knowledge in both Microsoft and Linux operations and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of firewalls, access lists and systems security
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, phones, security updates and patches
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve user issues as well as interact with systems as required
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business reports, periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to prepare presentations, write reports and business correspondence with limited or no errors
  • Ability to effectively and persuasively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Exceptional customer service orientation

 
Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience 
  • Must have experience in Microsoft and Linux platforms
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • On-call availability 
  • Ability to obtain a US Government clearance
