Job description

The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support an exciting Air Force Life Cycle Management Center program. This role involves supporting the delivery of comprehensive IT and support services to ensure mission success while adhering to DoD standards and regulations. This role includes system configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring the security and integrity of systems and infrastructure. The Senior Systems Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to support on-site system deployments, software updates, and operational readiness, ensuring that all systems meet security, performance, and availability requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ability to travel to support customer sites and participate in hardware installation and configuration.
  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual Linux and Windows servers.
  • Oversee and perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise within a complex system or network infrastructure.
  • Manage system patches, upgrades, and security hardening in compliance with DoD policies.
  • Provide support for system backups, disaster recovery, and data integrity.
  • Assist in managing system access, user accounts, and security configurations.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to support software deployments and integration.
  • Ensure system documentation is maintained and up to date.
  • Participate in incident response and resolve issues related to system performance, security, and availability.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers and administrators, fostering knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
  • Coordinate with Government network owners to understand requirements for new locations.

Basic Qualifications:
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance prior to your start date.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or a Master's Degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • DoD 8140 intermediate certification or DoD 8570 IAM Level II certifications or higher.
  • Experience with Active Directory, LDAP, or similar directory services.
  • Strong foundational experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Strong experience administering complex environments with Linux and Windows operating systems, network administration, and networking protocols/functions (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS, SSL/TLS, SMTP, DNS).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to bring structure and clarity to ambiguous or unstructured information.
  • Self-starter that is able to work independently while possessing the communication skills to work effectively with multiple cross functional teams and customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance and the ability to maintain that clearance during your employment.
  • Linux certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, CompTIA Linux+).
  • Windows Server certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA Server+).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based account management and infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience in managing accounts across various platforms (e.g., Windows, Linux, macOS).
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools like ServiceNow and Atlassian Jira Service Management.
