What does a Linux operations engineer do?

A Linux Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing Linux-based servers and systems within an organization. They ensure the stability, security, and performance of Linux environments by performing tasks such as system updates, troubleshooting, automation scripting, and backup management. Additionally, they collaborate with other IT teams to deploy new applications, resolve incidents, and implement best practices for system administration. Their role is crucial in supporting critical business operations that rely on Linux infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Linux operations engineer?

To thrive as a Linux Operations Engineer, you need strong expertise in Linux system administration, scripting (such as Bash or Python), and troubleshooting, typically supported by a degree in computer science or relevant certifications like RHCE.
